Positive Mental Attitude:
Demonstrates a positive mental attitude, disposition and shows support and/or contagious enthusiasm
for motivating others.
Supervisor Rating: Outstanding
Comments:
Carine demonstrates the type of positive mental disposition that is contagious. She is enthusiastic
about her work and the individuals with whom she works. She brings a motivating presence to the
workplace that encourages others to be positive as well.
Independence:
Ability to make decisions independently with little supervisor involvement. Ability to manage work
tasks, projects etc., with little supervisor involvement.
Supervisors Rating: Exceeds Requirements
Comments:
Carine came to this position with no experience in managing the day-to-day operations of a food
pantry. She was a quick learner and was able to quickly take command of the many tasks that are
involved leading and training volunteers, managing the work flow, sustain and develop collaborative
relationships and organize and oversee the operational functions of the pantry.
Teamwork:
Ability to meaningfully contribute to the overall direction of the office, department or division and
promote consensus in decision making.
Supervisors Rating: Satisfactory/Opportunity for Growth
Comments:

Carine is a very efficient and hard-working team member; and her staff of volunteers and I
appreciated that during her time with us. Carine will need to work on determining what tasks can and
should be delegated; not to sacrifice efficiency, but to reinforce teamwork as a fluid concept among
staff, to share opportunities and to broaden the competencies of her staff.
Continuous Improvement:
Ability to evaluate successes and challenges and determine how to modify or develop programs,
initiatives or services for desired outcomes.
Supervisors Rating: Satisfactory / Opportunity for Growth
Comments:
Carine will benefit from taking a moment in the workday or work-week to take stock in her
accomplishments and the accomplishments of the team. She will also benefit from examining what
were challenges impede work tasks, and use that identification to help manage efficiency and
effectiveness of her efforts.
Conceptual Ability:
Ability to see the big picture by identifying strengths & challenges and develops appropriate solutions
for future growth and vision.
Supervisory Rating: Satisfactory
Comments:
For Carine, understanding the big picture will require her to more often to think outside of the
box, reshape the box and look beyond todays horizon to fashion the future for any work
responsibilities. She is exceptionally adept at understanding what the needs of today are and will
need to work on using that knowledge to develop tomorrows ideas for the agency or organization in
which she will be employed.
Organization:
Strong organizational skills with the ability to identify and/or implement project details, and teach
others how to effectively plan and organize programs or services.
Supervisory Rating: Satisfactory/Exceeds Requirements
Comments:
Management of the Food Pantry takes above average organizational skills, such as physical
organization, mental organization, time management, the ability to use time energy and resources in
an effective way to meet organizational goals, self-discipline, planning and scheduling, and self-

direction. Carines performance in this area has increased with her knowledge of food pantry
operations. Areas that she will need more experience in are budgeting and delegation.
Balance:
Ability to lead and role model a balanced work/life-style.
Supervisors Rating: Outstanding
Comments:
It never ceased to amaze me how Carine balances all of her responsibilities. She remained focused,
gave attention to details and managed to maintain a high level of energy while working with others.
She took great effort to be balanced and manage multiple tasks of being a student, employee and
having a private/personal life outside of work.
Multi-Task:
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple demands and projects simultaneously.
Supervisors Rating: Satisfactory/Exceeds Requirements
Comments:
See comment above related to Balance.
Generalist:
Ability to apply education and experience to effectively manage a variety of responsibilities.
Supervisor Rating: Exceeds Requirements
Comments:
Carine has taken opportunities to discuss related in-the-classroom learning with the realities of
being a Student Affairs professional. It has been a benefit to her to apply theory to reality; noting
consistency and divergence and to make sense the real-world of the work of Student Affairs.
Multiculturalism:
Ability to understand multicultural issues in a campus environment and the ability to identify concerns
related to underserved and underrepresented student, faculty and staff populations. The ability to
identify barriers, challenges and strengths of the campus environment/ecology to full access and
participation.
Supervisors Rating: Satisfactory
Comments:

Diversity and enhancing ones multicultural competency is a life-long process. Rarely, does anyone
reach a self-actualized state of being diverse. I believe that Carine, while not being an expert
treats everyone that she meets with dignity and respect. She is open to new ways of examining her
world and the world around her to broaden her understanding of those who occupy it. She is very
humble, which she makes her very approachable and easy to communicate and work with.
Student Centric:
Ability to relate to the central and obscure needs of students and appropriately challenge and support
students. Provide optimal learning experiences and services that lead to student success. Provide
educational opportunities for students to support success. Empowers students to take responsibility for
their academic work, social life and career development. Devotes time and energy to student success;
engendering a caring and supportive environment and high quality student-centric service.
Supervisors Rating: Exceeds Requirements
Comments:
Carine will be a great Student Affairs professional! It takes an intuitive understanding of students and
their complex world. She uses communication skills; i.e. listening, non-verbal communication,
friendliness, confidence, clarity, empathy, open-mindedness, and respect to enter a students world
to understand their point of view and to respond with the appropriate level of concern, services and
resources that will make for a well-rounded Student Affairs professional and students who know that
she will always give her 100% best to meet their needs and position them for success.
Additional self-evaluative comments:
It is my hope for Carine that she pursues a doctoral level degree in either Student Affairs or
Psychology. She has the academic aptitude, the work ethic and sheer will to be successful against the
odds! Her educational attainment coupled with her love for learning and for working in Higher
Education will position her well for any employment opportunity that she seeks. The Graduate
Assistantship experience should develop, challenge and grow both the Graduate Assistant and their
supervisor. Each is to learn from the other; knowing that each possess superior knowledge about
something that the other does not know. Each is to encourage and inspire the other because working
in Student Affairs in Higher Education is not easy; there are days when the actions of students and
their reactions to their world will make time stand still. It is in those moments that growth in both the
learner and the learned takes place.
I appreciate the opportunity to have had Carine work with us over the past 2 years and our team will
be different and better because of her contributions to her cohort, the Food Pantry and the Office of
the Vice President for Student Affairs.
