Sociology of Education
Education is important because we get to learn and gain knowledge and use it in our
everyday life.
Education is very important to both your personal and professional life, in a
number of significant ways!
Subject Matter
English and language skills:This will help you to improve your
communication skills in society.
Math and science skills:Without math, you will not be able to do
any calculations, at least have some basic math skills.
The more you LEARN, the more you EARN:
Depending what kind of major or what youre studying, the more you
learn the more you earn, doctor degrees can take up to 10 years to
obtain and they get pay a lot because its involve human beings life.
So they have to study extra hard to know what theyre doing.
Aspects of Education
Socialization
-Education will improve a persons social skills such as how to
have a better conversation and choose the correct words to use
in conversation and writing.
Development of Personality
-According to Durkheim, education play an important role in
development of personality.
is to awaken and develop in the child those physical,
intellectual and moral states which are required of him both by
his society as a whole and by the milieu for which he is specially

Social Control:
Education can also help a persons life to improve on the
behavior while socialization or interacting with people.
It transmit a way of life and communicating ideas to our life.
Student Debt
The higher the education, the more expensive it is.
- a lot of students are in debt after high school, not because
they went shopping too much, but student loan for studying.
Each major/career have a different amount of money for them
to pay the school and study.
- we usually have a certain time to pay off our debt after
graduation, some students end up paying it for the rest of their
life because of their income, and overtime, the interest from the
student loan keep on increasing.
Functionalist Perspectives
Durkheim believed that education created social solidary, and
that through education culture was easily transmitted through
beliefs and values. He viewed schools as a miniature society
with rules, and cooperation.
Conflict Perspectives
Conflict theorysees the purpose of education as maintaining
social inequality and preserving the power of those who
dominate society. Conflict theorists examine the same functions
of education as functionalists. Functionalists see education as a
beneficial contribution to an ordered society; however, conflict
theorists see the educational system as perpetuating the status
quo by dulling the lower classes into being obedient workers.
Reflection
Throughout this project, I believe that Education play an
important role in everyone life. In order to have a successful life,
one has to study hard in school and obtain a degree. In our
todays society, a lot of work place require work experiences, a
strong resume, and a degree that would make them have the
interested in hiring us. Without education, there will be many
obstacles and struggle in our life. A job is a job, but with higher
education we get to earn more from what weve learn. the
more you learn the more you earn this show that all your hard
work will pay off at the end if youre willing to put extra time in
studying.
