StatisticsRecent studies show nearly 1 in 6 people in the world are diagnosed with
some form of mental or physical disability.
Individuals with disabilities are 3 to 4 more likely to be victims of abuse this is
often due to their increased vulnerability and inability to speak up for
themselves. But by increasing social awareness and teach proper care among
the average person we would believe we will be able to decrease the chances
of these occurrences in todays society.
Proper care
As human beings we are all entitled to the same care and wellbeing. This
being said having the same standard of living as our counterparts.
These are some examples of proper treatment which result in a
higher quality of life and a greater overall wellbeing.
Improper care
Often times individuals with disabilities are not given that same quality of life although this is
certainly unfair. This is often because they are not able to voice themselves on a public level.
These are examples of improper treatment that ultimately harm the individual and their
development and their mental and physical wellbeing.
Abuse (hitting, harming, shoving, shaking, slapping, kicking, punching, burning, etc.)
Failing to provide basic needs such as food, water, shelter, and appropriate attire.
Self-Neglect (Starvation, dehydration, no treatment of illness, bad personal hygiene)
Exploitation (using another personal resources for advancement of oneself)
EXAMPLES
Conclusion
By identifying improper treatment and
teaching proper care and techniques we
will be able to assure these individuals the
quality of life they deserve.
