Writing

Task 2 Writing
Objective
To develop awareness of different genres and forms of writing for children and consider
methods used for giving feedback on childrens writing.
Procedure
1, Collect 4 samples of childrens writing. Make sure to remove the childs name from the
sample. Try to find samples from different grade levels if possible. If not just choose samples
from different levels in your class.

Reflection
Identify one writing sample and explain the stage of
writing you think the student has reached.

The sample fit in the Fluency: conventional


spelling stage because Students s spelling
gradually become more conventional; they
have an excellent spelling "Children spell most
words correctly" (Rockets, 2010).Also, they
use punctuation mark correctly and capital and
lower case letters in the appropriate places. For
example, they start the sentence by using a
capital letter I and they finish the sentence by using a period. So, it resembles as
adults writing

Description

Tell an imaginative story, but this may be based on


fact. Narrative texts are organized according to
setting, event leading to a problem and solution. The
main features of narrative writing are: defined
characters, descriptive language, past tense.
To retell past experiences. There are different types of recounts
which including personal (my trip to the farm), factual (retelling an
accident) and imaginative recounts (a day in the life of a puppy).
Recount writing is organized by setting, events in chronological
order and a concluding statement. The main features of recount
writing are specific participants, action verbs and past tense

method and evaluation. Features of procedural
writing include: detailed factual description, reader
referred to in a general way (draw a line), linking
words to do with time, tense is timeless.
To present factual information. Reports are organized
by; classification, description and summarizing
comment. The features of report writing are;
generalized participants, impersonal objective
language, timeless present tense and subject specific
vocabulary.
