3 tubs labed: Cardboard, Plastic, and Paper
At least 20 objects that have the triangle recycle symbol to recycle

Assessment (Formative and/or Summative):


In order to meet the standard, the learner will be assessed through observation and the
Recycle or Garbage worksheet. The students will be in whole group and individual setting.

--Talk about what recycling means "To


make items from old ones"
--Talk about how when we recycle, it will
be made into new things.
--Talk about how items can be used over
and over again (Reuse)

Students will pick out a


recyclable object and find where
it shows the recycling symbol.
15 min.

--Talk about how everyday materials can


be recycled

--Show them the recycling symbol

-Have buckets with the recycling symbol


and type of recycling on the front
-Have objects that are recyclable
-Have popsicle sticks with student's
names on them and draw one name at a
time. Each student will be able to come
up and pull out an object from the trash
bag
-Have the students look at each object
and find the recycling symbol
-Talk about how objects that have that
symbol are able to be recycled and will be
made into something new if recycled

Once students find the symbol


and talk about how they can
recycle at home, they will figure
out which bin they can sort their
trash into.

Students will sort out the trash


from the objects that can be
recycled and glue them into the
correct column.

For the visually


impaired,
provide an
object that has
a large
recycling
symbol printed
on it.

-Next, talk about how objects have to be


separated based on the similar materials
it's made from. (Paper, Plastic, etc.)
-Put the student's names back in the cup
and draw their names one at a time again
for them to come up and separate them
into the correct bin.

Emphasize that those objects


(and many more) can be found
and used every day at their
house.

-If time allows, have students complete


the "Recycle or Trash" worksheet.
