Ethos, Pathos, and Logos
Racism is a big issue that is still going on today in this country. An example of someone
who contributes to racism is Donald Trump. In his speeches, he makes a lot of racial comments
that people find offensive. For example, in one of his speeches, he stated that Mexicans bring
crime and drugs to America, and he called them rapists. However, this is not all true because
every ethnic group that comes to America makes good and bad contributions. In this essay, I am
going to discuss a video produced by Daniel Fernandez, called Is Donald Trump Racist?.
Daniel Fernandez, from Venezuela, is a content creator who makes videos to empower people to
become better versions of themselves every day. In this video, he addresses the issue of racism. I
will analyze how he uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos to show that Donald Trump is indeed racist.
Latino people motivated Mr. Fernandez to create this video because he, like many other
people, comes from a Spanish country, and he may have gotten tired of all the things Donald
Trump has been saying. He stood up for his people. With this video, Fernandez wants to get
people to not vote for Donald Trump. His audience is all the people who are going to vote in the
elections this year because if people watch this video, then people will be able to make a better
decision on whom to choose when voting for their next president. The people who are not his
audience are some members of the Republican Party, and people from the Democratic Party. This
are not the people who are going to vote for Trump. Some members of the Republican Party are

not his audience because they dont want him to represent the party because they dont think he
can win. The members of the Republican Party that support him want Trump to win the
elections. Fernandezs audience is not the people who are going to vote for Donald Trump
because Trumps supporters are either not offended by what he says or they share his racist
views.
The big picture of this video is to make all the people who are going to vote think twice
before voting for Donald Trump. The Latino community was who prompted Daniel Fernandez to
create this video, since Donald Trump speaks badly about Hispanics. All Mr. Fernandez wanted
to do is to get his voice heard and to make things clear by stating facts in his video. Not everyone
is going to stand in front of a camera and do what Fernandez did for the reason that people feel
insecure, or sometimes feel scared to speak up because they are in a state they migrated to and so
they feel their voices will never be heard.
Daniel Fernandezs use of ethos was simple. The way he was standing and talking when
he was making the video made me believe him the first time I heard him talk. He was talking
clearly, he had that serious look on his face, and most importantly, he showed video clips of
when Donald Trump made remarks of his racism against Hispanics to prove his points. He then
took time to talk about each video clip to tell his audience how everything Trump talked about in
the videos were just lies.
Fernandez did not use a lot of pathos in his video, but he did sound furious as he was
talking. In one of the videos, Trump stated They bring crime, referring to Mexicans without
stating that other ethnic groups and races also commit crimes and that most Mexicans do not.
How about if we take a look back at what happened in Colorado at the Aurora theater? It is clear

that not only Mexicans bring crime. With the kind of person that Donald Trump is, I guess he
will just pretend like that did not happen.
I liked how instead of using charts for Logos, Daniel Fernandez showed video clips as a
back up to everything he was saying. Video clips are far more effective than other methods of
proof because they are the best way to prove to the audience that the author is not lying. They
show the person that was talking, and it is up to the viewers to judge by what they see and hear
with their eyes and ears. With the use of charts, the viewer never knows when that chart was
made, or from what year was it made, so that makes me think that any person giving any type of
information without proof can be lying, and as a result, the person giving the information can be
giving some false information
In the video, Fernandezs style was very formal. He was talking alone without an
audience. He was calm until proving his points. He sounded reasonable, reliable and trustworthy.
In conclusion, Daniel Fernandezs video is very crucial today politically speaking
because there is a major debate going on about racism in society. This is especially true because
Donald Trump, a Republican candidate running for President, is bringing back racism. In
discussing racism, this video used ethos effectively for credibility because Mr. Fernandez was
standing firm, looking serious, and stating facts. Fernandez appeal to pathos while he was
speaking because he sounded furious. Lastly, Fernandez stated facts, and his tone sounded
reliable and welcoming.
