A Stop to Bullying

We have all turned on the news and have heard about teen around us, who has taken their
life because they were being bullied. This is something that happens all around us every day, this
happens in our communities, yet most of us do not do anything about it. These days now we live
in a world where our worst enemies are our neighbors. Though there are small foundation and
organization that have been formed in the names lost one, it is just not enough. We have to help
these foundations reach their message everywhere; we have to save our own teens. There are
many ways that bullying can occur and there are also many things that come with being bullied.
For some teen who are being bullied it is more than just feeling bad and crying, for some of them
it means depression, self-harming, suicidal thought and even attempt or successful suicides. We
can all do something to change this, we may not be able to fight all battles such as of cancer or
other disease, but this one we can and their cannot be any way we can lose unless we dont try.
As stated in an article An estimated 804, 000 suicide deaths occurred worldwide in 2012
(Megan Meier Foundation). It is also researched and concluded that suicide is the third leading
cause of death among teens and young adults. Together we can help reduce the number of
suicides that occur yearly around, we can help be the voice of those who hide their pain in dark,
we help end the silent pain that our teens face when being bullied.
Bullying, we have all heard the term, but what does being bullied actually mean?
Bullying or harassment is something that sadly are own human kind cause to another human
being. The foundation of Megan Meier states what bullying is and mentions it mostly clearly,
Bullying is an aggressive behavior involving unwanted, negative actionsinvolves a pattern
of repeated behaviors over timeinvolves an imbalance of power or strength. (Megan Meier
Foundation). There are many types of bullying such as physical, verbal, and cyberbullying.
Bullying is something that we can prevent, but can change how it ends. We can speak to our own

teens at home and warn them and talk to them, but he cannot stop the bullies that are out there.
Bullying can affect someone for the rest of their life, if they do not get help and learn that life
gets better. If someone is being bullied, it will lead them self-insecurity, and they can began to
feel ashamed of whom they are. They can go into depression, they can come to believe they do
not belong in society, and they come to the decision to end it all. When someone is being bullied,
it may be hard for them to speak up and tell someone, but we must remind them constantly that
they are not alone. Every parent and student should be informed about what to do if they or
someone they know are being bullied and what to do. We can help reduce the number of bullied
student by raising the awareness to student and parents. We can inform parents about the red
flags so it may help them see if their child is being bullied. Sometimes in some cases the teens
that decide that leaving this world is the best, are sometimes the ones you would never expect,
sometimes they were that never stopped smiling. Together we must support this cause and make
a safer and better environment for all of our students.
There tons of stories about bullies that led the bullied to be sociology harmed. One story
that was heard all round was the story of Amanda Todd. Many heard her story, many judged her,
they took her as a joke, they said hateful thing, and most of them did not know her true story. She
was a victim of cyberbullying; the result of her story was suicide at age of 16. It all started when
she started using video chat, where from behind a screen a 35 year- old man convinced her to
show him her breast, in which he took advantage and blackmailed her. Her one mistake lead her
to be another victim of this man. This man became her shadow, she had no escape. Everywhere
she moved and tried to start over this man reappeared in her life. This man showed her photo to
all the new people she met. Though she started video chatting in seventh grade, her pain started a
year later. He ruined her life in matter of second, it just took one click of one photo, for her lose

everything. They judged her quick before knowing her complete story; she became an outcast
and was judged because of the photo that was sent. From this she got depression and anxiety, she
tired alcohol and drugs to help her move on. After that she started self-harming and was
physically bullied too. After that she attempted to suicide but was unsuccessful, she continued to
move schools, but after all it did not stop. The cyberbullying continue, what many people do not
realize is that once it is online there is now way for it to stop. Then on October 10, 2012, (No
Bullying) she committed suicide. The article stated it perfectly She was desperate for someone
to understand her, listen to her and simply, she wanted a friend who got her.(No Bullying). She
wanted someone to understand her that all she asked for, maybe that could have changed the
ending of this tragic story. This story did though help the Canadian parliament suggest a bill that
would protect kids from being cyberbullied; unfortunately the bill did not pass. This is just one
of the many stories there are out there. We must not let the same mistakes happen again, we must
protect and make aware the consequence and actions bullying can bring. We must let the story
of Amanda Todd be one of the examples of what can happen and let teens and children see how
their lives could change in a matter of seconds.
There are foundations and organization that do help the cause of bullying like for
example Stand for the Silence, Pacers, or Megan Meier foundation. All of these foundations help
to raise the awareness of bulling and help inform student and parents. They are all great
foundation that help and change lives. They all have a powerful story behind them, but they are
not enough. They have impacted lives, but they are still little and they need more support to go
out and help many others. Students should have a presentation about bullying and all the
consequence that come with it, at least three times through their school years. Right now there
are student who have not even had one, and therefore lack important information that if it cannot

help them, it can help someone else close to them. Pacer is an organization created by teen to
help other students take action against bullying the right way. They are also full of information
for everyone; they raise and speak to victims that they are not alone! Stand for the Silent is an
organization that also helps raise awareness and encourage student to stand with them in their
effort to stop bullying. They go out and give presentation and encourage schools to start chapter
in effort to rise above bullying and put a stop to it. Megan Meier foundation focuses on also
raising awareness of bullying and cyberbullying. They hope to change the ending to stories and
help prevent suicide. All of these foundations are great and are helping the cause but just need
more help to reach and touch more lives.
Bullying through social media can cause more damage than we think. Cyberbullying is
more eager to get rather than bullying verbally or physically. When things are brought online,
they can never be taken away. The website of Megan Meier explains cyberbullying as
Cyberbullying has negative effects on victims, such as lowering self-esteem, increasing
depression and producing feelings of powerlessness. (Megan Meier Foundation). Cyberbullying
can happen an anything type of device or site. It can be on any type of social media or email, or
it can even be directly to a cellphone. For someone who is being cyberbullied it may seem like
there no escape, because it is everywhere, not even at home are they safe from it. It absolutely
true when they say everything is easier behind a computer screen. People can say and tell
everything they want through a screen and think it will not have the same effect as if they did it
in person, but they are wrong. Words that are said in person or through a monitor have the same
affect and can sometimes be worse. We cannot stop student or practically anyone from using
technology these day but we can change on how they are being used. Instead we can change the

use of social media to encourage anti-bullying, let those victims that though it is online they are
still not alone.
It topic is very important to be know and to be take action by everyone. This is war in
that we are losing teen every day and we should not be. There many bad thing happening all over
the world and we cannot push each other down, we should hold each other and help with other
cause. The pain students go through is so unfair and should not be allowed to continue anymore.
Student should be able to walk free, unafraid of anything with their heads held high. It is
extremely important that protect and help make a safe environment for our student because they
take the easy way out. We must stand tall and be the voice of us lack because of the dodged done
to us. Together we can stand and help make a difference in a childs story and save a life.

Abstract

Bullying is something we see every day whether it be happening to our own student in
our own household or child across the street. We must help end every kind of bullying there is in
our schools. So many kids have been harassed and harmed by hateful word, for no reason. We
cannot wait for more students to take their life because of bullying, we need to take action now
and help students realize the damage bullying can case. We need to let the bullies know how
much their word can hurt someone, but not just the person they attack but their family and
friends too. We must encourage bystanders to speak and a voice to those who at the moment
cannot. They must know that their voice and actions at the moment can just end up saving
someone life. The victims must know that they are not alone, and we must tell them constantly.
We can help them heal and recover their self-esteem. We need to help them see their future,
because they may just be an essential key to mankind. We must stop bullying and show everyone
we still have hearts and mankind still cares about other being and hopes for a better future for
them.

Biography

My name is Sadey Gutierrez and I am 18 year old. I have grown up in Enid, OK. I am
completely against bullying, for the same fact that I was a bullied as well. Many people do not
understand the full concept of being bullied and our reasons for us to keeping in silence and not
speaking up. I honestly though wish they can never understand how much it hurts to get bullied.
I was verbally and physically bullied and my parent never noticed. There are so many parents
who are so unware of red flags and it is so essential that we help them know. For me it was not
easy to overcome and I still not completely recovered form everything that I went through. I was
pushed down to where I thought they were absolutely right and I had no value or purpose to be
living. Along the way though before I hit rock bottom I found friends who helped me and to
them I am very thankful, because they saved my life. After 4 year of being bullied and two years
of counseling, I am happy to say my life has a purpose and thing do get better.
