Summary: In GAO report shows how Obamacare subsidizes abortion
Timothy P. Carney explains about the ACA and how it subsidizes abortions.
He also argues how Obamacare didnt keep their word on certain items.
Initially abortion under the ACA was not supposed to be covered and the
insurance company must bill you separately. Carney expounds that in 2009
President Obama told Congress under our plan, no federal dollars will be
used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.
However the Government Accountability Office reports the opposite; that
taxpayers are subsidizing abortions. Some states have no abortion-free plans
available and in many others, customers cant tell which plans cover abortion
and which dont. Its forcing pro-life people to pay into a pool that pays for
abortions; thus robbing individuals of the first amendment (freedom of
speech and religious beliefs).
Rhetorical Analysis: Timothy P. Carney is the senior political columnist for
the Washington Examiner and was a professor of Journalism at Hillsdale
College. He wrote Obamanomics; he is a credible author. Carney mainly uses

Logos and Ethos to persuade his audience; He is against the ACA. He

provides information and about how Obamacare isnt keeping their word and
is in a way forcing people to fund abortion. He uses ethos when he uses the
GAO which is a credible source. He helps readers see the underlying facts of
the ACA and how they violate the first amendment.
Reflection: Many people are into the ACA and believe that is in essence
helps individuals obtain coverage. However the foundation of the ACA, based
off of this article, is corrupt. Carney explains the deeper values that lie within
the ACA how slowly the rights of tax payers are slowly diminishing. To what
extent are we willing to give up our rights to freedom of speech, and rights to
practice our religious beliefs? Carney argues that the ACA robs us of that.

Summary: In The ACA: Some Unpleasant Welfare Arithmetic by Casey B.
Mulligan she argues that the ACA creates marginal tax rates on income that
exceed one hundred percent which is not good because it discourages work
effort without raising revenue. She explains how there are new penalties
under the ACA that could negatively affect employers if they dont provide
health insurance to full time employees. So employers will cut back work

hours so that they can opt out of providing coverage for their employees.
This leaves individuals in a bind. Individuals will be making money and work
employment will be increased, however the money they make may not be
enough to qualify them for coverage thus leading to unmotivated job
seekers. All in all employers will have their employees work 29 hour weeks
which will opt out the employers from a penalty but it leaves lower income to
their employees.
Rhetorical Analysis: Casey Mulligan is a professor of economics at the
University of Chicago. She mainly uses logic and economics to prove
Obamacares downside. She allows her audience to view the ACA from a long
term perspective. How it will help individuals for now but in the long run
cripples them. It decreases work hours and leaves individuals with low
income as they remain in poverty or the working poor.
Reflection: Mulligan brings up a great point to the table and how it will
decrease individuals pay and financial stability in the long run. However I feel
like we live in a time of instant gratification. People want things down now,
want money now, and want help straight away. The ACA supports that and
gives individuals that instant help. People will do just about anything to avoid
penalties and fines. This still may have the readers see the ACA as a
beneficial law.

Summary: In Planned Parenthood to Receive Over $655,000 as
Navigators for Obamacare by Sarah Torre she writes how the Obamacare
is funding Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion contributor, who hardly
needs the funding. She shares how Marketplaces, navigators and application
assisters will be hired to help enroll consumer in coverage under the ACA.
Torre proves that Obama praised the groups work in developing the
preventative services mandate that is currently trampling on many
employers fundamental freedoms by forcing them to provide coverage of
abortion-inducing drugs and contraception in their health plans. This
expands provisions for abortion.
Rhetorical Analysis: Sarah Torre focuses on policy issues related to religious
liberty, marriage and family as policy analyst in the DeVos Center for Religion
and Civil Society at The Heritage Foundation. She has been cited by The New
York Times and other newspapers and regularly appears on radio programs
across the country. Shes a distinguished writer. Her article is credible
because she too sees the ACA more as a negative than a positive to society
due the funding of Planned Parenthood. She wants and feels that it needs to
be repealed however from her stance I feel like readers need more facts or

evidence of the negatives of this. As readers they would appreciate her key
points however it may not be enough to persuade them that the ACA is not a
benefit.
