Practicum 3a

In grade 2 math book, section 2, there are 6 units. 3 of the units are for semester 2, but after the
break they will take the last 3 units of the book. I will observe only 4 units from the whole book.

The first unit is the time unit that related to the Measurement and Data that include the CCSS
stander of tell and write time. The second unit is about minus two numbers from two numbers
even that it was horizontal or vertical that related to the math standard Operations and Algebraic
Thinking. This unit related to more than one standard, such as; Understand addition, as putting
together and adding to, understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from, Represent and
solve problems involving addition and subtraction, Understand and apply properties of
operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.

The third unit is counting until 1000. This unit is related to the math stander of Number and
Operations in Base Ten. This unit is related to the standers of understanding the place value,
using place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract. Using place
value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic and generalize
place value understanding of multidigit whole numbers.

This book also includes unit about measurement. The math standard for this unit is Measurement
and Data and the standard are Classify objects and count the number of objects in categories,
Measure lengths indirectly and by iterating length units, Measure and estimate lengths in
standard units. In addition, these are the units from the book that I will observe and attend in my
5 weeks in the school.

Finally, all of the content aligns with the CCSS for my grade level and this is by including all of
the standard that in the book. And all of the standard match the objectives of each unit in the
book.

About the classroom management, in the math classroom the students always set as groups
(appendix 1). The teacher organized them as groups because they apply some group activities.
But shes also applying a lot of individual activities, even that they are set in groups. They are
answering worksheets, book questions and practice book questions individually. Also, the
teacher applies some activities and choose them to answer the questions on the board.

In this class, the shelves are full of papers, notebooks and books. In math lesson, the students
keep their books in these shelves after that they finish the math classes for the day. These shelves
also include a lot of math basic tools that the teacher use for teaching the students the concept of
the lesson (appendix 2). Grade 2 class is divided between the all teachers not only the math
teacher. So, you can find as an example a lot of cards and pictures that related to English class, in
the display, the wall and the board. The wall and the door include the schedule, the list of the
students names, the reinforcement and the students pictures (appendix 3).

This class includes a lot of useful material for all the subjects, such as; the data show, the
projector, the computer and the device that present the papers in the board (Appendix 4).

Her lesson plan (appendix 5) includes the name of the subject, the semester, the day, the date,
the title of the lesson, the unit title and name. She should prepare a warming up. The warming up
section in the lesson plan include different choices and the teacher just have to select the type of
the warming up and this by coloring. The teacher should also select the strategy and thinking
skills that she goes to apply during the lesson. She will also include the teaching and learning
methods. The subject that related to the strategy or the information that used in the math lesson.
The tools and the activities. The learning results, the notes and the school principle signature.

The teacher plan for the semester by start with giving the new skills that they should gain from
the beginning of the year. The teacher plans to give each day part of the topic or the lesson that
should be learned by the students because it considered like a basic skill that they should know
to complete all the lessons in a good way. So, the teacher plan by giving an idea for the students
about the difficult lessons. Such as; if the students will take comparing between the numbers that
include 3 place values or until hundred they give them the Sequence of numbers from 1 to 999.

In addition, the teacher uses the same lesson plan of the daily or weekly plan for the semester
planning. And this is by selecting the title of the units and write all the strategies that will apply
or the basic tools that and activities that can be used. So, the daily planing by selecting the title of
the lesson and how to use all the requirements daily. While, in planning for the semester, the
teacher selects the most things that will used but the same form of the lesson plan.
