Classroom ambience:
I want my classroom to be an open space where students can feel free to express themselves in
an appropriate manner. Students will follow school guidelines; being respectful towards others,
the space around them and materials are imperative.
Managing resources:
At the beginning of the year/quarter/semester... etc. I want to develop relationships with the
students. Get to know them and they will get to know me. It is hard for me to really know what I
want to do because I can be in Elementary, Middle and High which are all three very different
styles of teaching.
During each class time, my students will be required to come to class prepared and ready to
learn. With each new project I want to start out by a slideshow of different types of artists and
why they relate to the projects; for inspiration. This will be followed by a demonstration of tools
used and properties of project requirements. Basically guide them and give them examples of
what I am looking for in each project.
Depending on how much time there is, each student will have between 2- 3 weeks to work on
their projects and have time to critique.
Each student will need to purchase a class tools/materials package they will keep and use
throughout their art classes. If they can not afford it, classroom tools/materials will be loaned out
to them. They are responsible to turn each item back at the end of the class.
If there are no demos, presentations or other important matter to cover, they will have all of class
time as a work day.

Since Im not sure what level I will be teaching at just yet, this is a general plan for classroom set
up. There will be enough tables for students to sit at and work on their projects, storage for
materials and past/present work, sinks to wash off at, a projector when introducing new projects
and artists and a computer area in case they need to do quick research.
Class objective:
Students will explore a variety of art processes through varied approaches, tools, materials and
mediums. The goal for this class is for students to establish a connection to what they are making
and how they got to that point in their creative process. Each students projects will be original,
expressive, and creative in their own way.
Rules:
Students are expected to follow the schools rules, come to class on time and prepared
with a writing utensil, paper, and/or computer.
Students will be on task, working on their projects at all times during class period.
o Failure to do so will only hurt your grade, you are expected to be in class and
work on your assignments until due date.
o You can make up your time during lunch or after school (with teacher approval
and availability).
Late assignments will not be accepted unless you have an excused absence. Please speak
with me if there are other circumstances.
If a student is caught stealing or damaging materials from the art room they will be held
accountable.
Be respectful of others space and your own.
Clean up after yourself before each class period is over. Do not leave your work area
messy.
Students are expected to be in class on the last day for class clean up, this will count
towards your grade.
Cell Phone Policy:
You are allowed to have your phone out when documenting your findings and work in progress.
You can bring a camera, cell phone with camera, or iPod to be able to do that. You can also use
your phone as a music source when working on projects. I do have a speaker system which will
be playing music (and can take requests), other wise have headphones ready.
If I see you miss use your phone while in class, I will ask you ONCE to put it away. If I have to
ask you more than once I will collect it and keep locked away safe in my desk until class time is
over.
GRADING
Grading: Your grade for this class will be based on the completion of assigned projects, level of
commitment and interest, participation and preparedness in class and during critiques, attendance
and level of craftsmanship of your work.

Rosalba Soto-Vazquez

90-100% = A
80- 89% = B
70- 79%= C
60-69% = D
Below 59% = F
Projects: You are expected to complete and turn in each project on its due date. Failure to do so
will result in a failing grade. If you have an excused absence you have the following class period
to turn in your project. If project is turned it after two or more days your letter grade will drop
10% each day it is not turned in.
Participation: We will be doing critiques in class after each project. It is important to give and
receive constructive criticism and learn how to articulate ideas and insights related to art. Being
here for the critique will also count towards your grade! Make sure you are ready to talk about
your peers artworks as well as your own.
Attendance Policy: Being in class everyday counts towards participation grade! It is required!
Dont miss too many classes or you will fall behind and please come to class on time and be
ready to work. Absences, late shows, and early exits will result in a lowered participation grade
and affect the quality of your work. Three or more absences will result in a lowered grade by
half a letter grade, and will drop with continued absences. In addition, three late shows or early
exits will be considered one absence. Your grade will continue to drop if you surpass the max
number of absences.
