CHILDRENWITH

INCARCERATED
PARENTS

SO HOW CAN YOU HELP?

As mentioned there are many

organizations that have created
programs, fundraisers and charities
to help these children. But there is
still much help needed.
From sponsors, the promotion of the
cause, lawyers (legal adoption help),
care givers and many other.

THEPROBLEM, CONSEQUENCESAND
NEEDS

There is always a chance to create a

better future for these children they
are the future generations that will
shape our world.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

When these cases are presented in a
chld's life there is not enough
communication or awareness of the
needs this problem causes.
The reality is that 37% of the cases
end up in a never ending case of
adoption where the child becomes
of age and did not get a proper
house. All of this could be prevented
if there were more people and
organizations that reached out.

THE FACTS:
-

2.7 million children in the

US have a parent in prison.
Around 42% of these cases
are not addressed resulting
in children suffering.
Children suffer an inmese
emotional instability
affecting their education
and social developement.

THE CONSEQUENCES
When a parent is imprisoned a toll
of effects fall on the child. Studies
show that children may suffer from:

The needs of the children vary

differently since every case is
unique and because of that there are
several organizations that take care
and focus on specific problems.
It is in the best interest that people
learn
about
the
different
organizations and see if they would
like to reach out. The programs are
great but they are short on help.

Depression
Low self-esteem
Disruptive behavior at home

criminal behavior
Addictions
Feeling of guilt and of

Visual Argument Response
Through out the semester a certain topic has been carried out and has
been expanded with a research paper, an opinion piece, a presentation of the
community problem and now with a visual in which we used a brochure. First of
all, the topic chosen was: What problems and effects do children face when their
parents are taken to prison. This is a very serious topic since it involves many
different aspects that have to be treated with respect. For this reason in the
brochure the colors chosen were gray, blue and white which are considered to be
very neutral colors. The color blue that was used is a color that symbolizes in
many occasions depth and stability, which is the finality of the project. To make
people conscious of the problem so stability can be achieved in the troublesome
lives the children live,
While the process to choose the correct colors was given a great thought
also other aspects were considered. The pictures that are used included three
children with the finality of creating and emotional effect on the audience reading
it. There has to be a balance so the information can be provided and still create
an effect which is why the pictures where used. This is something very hard
because the words used also had to be chosen very carefully since too much
information can overwhelm and not transfer the message effectively, which is
where the task was most difficult. As mentioned in the beginning the topic was
developed and there is much information that was obtained, which makes it more
difficult to choose the words used since there is so much to say and very little
space.
The way the brochure is structured is very simple and unique it was
designed this way so it will not create a distraction from the information. This
brochure contains very general information since the objective was to create
awareness so people take an interest in looking up different organizations and

see if the can provide any help. So this is why it is important to not distract the
audience. While there might be different ways of presenting the brochure this one
is considered to be effective enough. It was created with a certain confidence
since the topic was selected for the fact that it can also be told from personal
experience. The participation in fundraisers, interaction with the children and
witnessing different cases can create a better understanding from the inside of
an organization and eventually the needs can be specifically mentioned. This
topic is very interesting and in the course of the semester much more valuable
information has been acquiered.
