Assessment criteria can help you plan


Media production is a process.
Each criterion assesses one specific aspect of the
process.
Use the criteria to help you plan and complete your
production at each stage:
Pre production
Production
Post production

Criterion 1: Production Exercises


Use of media equipment, applications and/or
processes to present ideas and/or achieve particular
effects in a media form:
Design plan specifications for a media product
and/or form
Possibilities, limitations of technical equipment,
applications and media processes
Aesthetic and/or structural qualities and
characteristics of media products

Production exercises
You are required to complete two technical
exercises that explore the possibilities and/or
limitations of relevant technical equipment,
applications and/or media processes.
Documentation for each exercise needs to
evaluate and analyse the process

Criterion 2:

Development and preparation of a media production


design plan in selected media form for a specified
audience
Include each of the specifications appropriate to the
media production to be undertaken.
The plan must comprise both written planning
documentation and visual representations.
The plan should specify:
idea(s),
audience(s)
concept(s)

Organisation can

Criterion 2: Production Design Plan


Overall plan should be coherent, integrated and
feasible.
The plan should reflect media production
practices and conventions.
Imagine someone else making your product from
your plan, what do they need to know?

Criterion 3: application and


understanding of styles, codes and
conventions appropriate to the
selected media form
This understanding should be evident in
both the design plan and the product.
Know your genre, style and conventions!

style in which
you are working
will be evident
in both your
plan and your
product.

Criterion 4: Realisation of an
individual/distinctive media product
appropriate to the intention for selected
audience/s that demonstrates appropriate
style
Skilful, thoughtful and effective realisation

and resolution of ideas and/or concepts

Individuality and distinctiveness comes in


many forms

Individuality and distinctiveness can be


evident in familiar genres and styles

Criterion 5: Skill in the operation of


equipment and use of materials and
processes appropriate to the selected
media form
The product should reveal an understanding of the
possibilities and limitations of equipment and
facilities available to the student
The product demonstrates an understanding of the
media form in which it has been created.

This student knows exactly what is


needed on set, a great starting point to
controlling equipment.

Criterion 6: management of the


production of a media product
An understanding of and skill in the management
and organisation of the media production process
should be evident in the product.
The finished product will reflect skill at each
stage:
Pre production
Production
Post production

Shot lists
are useful
planning
tools.

Realistic
timelines with
provision for
extra shoots
and mounting
are very
useful.

Criterion 7: realisation of the production


design plan in the media product
The product should reflect the students media
production design plan.
The product should reveal clear evidence of the use
of the design plan during the production process.
Variations to the plan made during its
implementation should be documented and attached.

Annotations
need to be
made to explain
the changes
that have been
made during
the production
process.

Use your
design plan
when you are
on location
and indicate
changes as
you go.
