St. Nessan’s Community College has just received fantastic news from the Arts Council of Ireland. We’re delighted to an- nounce that 2DA has been shortlisted for the national student theatre awards for her critique of The Addams Family. This is a highly prestigious award recognised within the theatrical community. It is one of the most highly contested categories shortlisted for the student theatre awards.

This is because every student in Ireland has open entry regardless of whether the school has produced a drama in the current academic year.

I’m sure you will agree if you have read her review, she is in with a great shout. However, it is a huge achievement even to be short- listed. Feel free to lavish praise upon Sadbh! We will be attending the prestigious awards ceremony in the Bord Gais Theatre on the 5th of May (with strong support from her fellow cast members) where hopefully she will scoop the best overall critique.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Christine Dunne and all staff members

who made vital contributions, both big and small, to the overall success of our school musicals.

Mr O’Connell

JCSP World Book Day
JCSP World Book Day

Central to the JCSP programme is the belief that all students are capable of success. The Make A Book Project succeeds in proving

that. 30 of our 1st Year students travelled to Cork on Thursday 25th February to showcase their own individual books at City Hall. The students wrote and illustrated their own books and the school published these mini books so that each student received their own individual copy of their book as a lasting reminder of the project. Students experienced the excitement of becoming authors and sharing their work with a wider audience. The project brings together many elements of the JCSP Programme-building self-esteem

and confidence, developing literacy skills, team work , reading and writing.

Helping these students to become more accurate, automatic and expressive readers and writers proved to be a very worthwhile en-

deavour as these students went on to invite their parents and younger brothers and sisters into the school library for a storytelling session . Thanks to all the teachers involved and the JCSP 1st Year Library Initiative.

ed by Cllr. Daniel Butler , Deputy Mayor .The flag was heisted by Captain Brian Lynch and Private Dave McInerney from Sarsfield

Barracks. Cian O’ Donnell read out the Proclamation while Sadhb O’ Riordan on behalf of all of our students put together a Proclamation for the next 100 year. Music, Dancing, History,Culture and Gaeilge were the order of the day and our own Jake Gilligan gave a powerful rendition of the national anthem.
