ABOUT YOUNG AUDIENCES/

ARTS FOR LEARNING
We envision a Maryland where every student is immersed in opportunities
to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts. Young
Audiences / Arts for Learning annually partners with 450 schools and
community organizations in all 24 Maryland school districts providing more
than 183,000 studentsfrom pre-K to grade 12with over 233,000 hours
of learning in and through the arts. Just like our youth need to have good
nutrition on a daily basis to thrive, they also need to have their daily serving
of the arts to excel. Are you concerned about the level of arts in your childs
education? If so, please contact us.

and Young Audiences

In Baltimore in 1950, Nina Collier founded
the Young Musicians Series, a live, chamber
music series performed in Baltimore-area
schools, out of concern that young people
were completing school and living their lives
without ever having heard a live performance
by a professional musician. This experimental
series marked the beginning of Young
Audiences of Maryland (YA), the nations
largest and oldest arts-in-education network.
Since its founding in 1857 as the first major
intellectual and arts center in an American
city, the Peabody Institute has remained one
of the countrys most prestigious conservatories
of music, training generations of leading
performers, composers, and teachers.
We are excited to announce that YA and
Peabody are coming together to bring
classical music and opera into the lives and
classrooms of more students than either
organization can do alone. We are thrilled
to offer these interactive music programs,
presented by professional Peabody instrumentalists, singers, and performers, to our
schools and community sites:

PEABODY OPERA THEATRE

PAPAGENO!
Papageno! is a shortened version of the
timeless tale of The Magic Flute as told from
the perspective of the endearing Papageno,
the Bird Man himself. The production is fully
costumed and staged and cast entirely of
Peabody Conservatory students with Peabody Opera Department faculty serving as its
artistic and music directors.

MARQUEE BRASS
Sound(s) Of Music & Paths Of Music
Marquee Brass brings together five virtuoso
musicians who deliver unforgettable concerts
for students of all grade levels. Merging
masterful technique, original arrangements,
imaginative presentation, and great storytelling,
Marquee Brasss two assembly programs,
Sound(s) of Music and Paths of Music, bring
the art of brass music into a new, exciting light.

SERVICES WE OFFER
All YA programs are performed by professional artists who have completed
a rigorous audition process. We evaluate our artists annually and provide
professional development opportunities for them to continue to grow and
improve as teaching artists.
YA programs come with a free Teachers Guide. These guides identify which state and
Common Core College and Career-Ready Standards are addressed in the program
and contain classroom-ready activities and handouts to help teachers prepare their
students for the program and extend learning once the program is over.

Our Programs:

* Address the state curriculum in the fine arts and other

academic areas. All are aligned with the Common
Core College and Career-Ready Standards.
* Build 21st Century Skills, such as critical thinking.
* Enhance appreciation and build knowledge of the arts.
* Create opportunities for enhancing the curriculum
through arts integration.

YA offers such a great variety of

performers who not only engage
the students, but leave them
excited to go home and share what
they learned with their family!
Whitney, Teacher,
Johnston Square Elementary

* Increase understanding of other cultures.

ASSEMBLY PERFORMANCE
Inspire and motivate your students with a live, interactive, and
educational arts assembly performance by a YA teaching artist or
ensemble. Assemblies are 45 minutes with a maximum audience
size of 250 students, unless otherwise specified. YA staff may be
able to assist you in securing grant and funding opportunities!

WORKSHOP
Build upon an assembly performance by practicing a new art
form during an additional hands-on session for groups of up to
25 students. Workshops are 45 minutes and typically follow an
assembly, reinforcing its content. Pricing: $100 per artist per session.

page 2

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
Engage students in creative experiences through a series of in-depth visits
from a YA teaching artist who works alongside teachers and students. All
YA residencies are skills- and curriculum-based. Many residences are also
arts-integrated, connecting skills and concepts in the arts with those in
literacy, math, science, and history. These programs are led by artists that
have received training from the Teaching Artist Institute (TAI) and can be
custom-designed to meet the specific needs of your students.
Residencies are tailored to your needs but usually include:
A kick-off assembly (for performing artists and ensembles only)
A required orientation meeting and planning session
A set of workshops for classes of up to 25 students each
A student culminating or sharing event
An evaluation meeting
Typically, residencies range from $2,500 to $3,500, but we can use your
available budget and work backwards to create a cost-effective residency
for your school. We may be able to assist you in securing grant and funding
opportunities. Contact us to learn more.

MARYLAND WOLF TRAP: EARLY LEARNING

THROUGH THE ARTS
As the Maryland regional program of the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning
Through the Arts, YA brings the power of the arts to Marylands youngest
students during the critical early learning years. This 16-session residency
program can focus on literacy or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Math) skills and includes embedded professional development to build
teachers skills and confidence in arts integration techniques. Teachers learn
effective ways to engage students in activities that involve all the senses and
encourage critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.
See Page 8 for more information.

PROGRAMS FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME

and Young Audiences

In Baltimore in 1950, Nina Collier founded
the Young Musicians Series, a live, chamber
music series performed in Baltimore-area
schools, out of concern that young people
were completing school and living their lives
without ever having heard a live performance
by a professional musician. This experimental
series marked the beginning of Young
Audiences of Maryland (YA), the nations
largest and oldest arts-in-education network.
Since its founding in 1857 as the first major
intellectual and arts center in an American
city, the Peabody Institute has remained one
of the countrys most prestigious conservatories
of music, training generations of leading
performers, composers, and teachers.
We are excited to announce that YA and
Peabody are coming together to bring
classical music and opera into the lives and
classrooms of more students than either
organization can do alone. We are thrilled
to offer these interactive music programs,
presented by professional Peabody instrumentalists, singers, and performers, to our
schools and community sites:

PEABODY OPERA THEATRE

PAPAGENO!
Papageno! is a shortened version of the
timeless tale of The Magic Flute as told from
the perspective of the endearing Papageno,
the Bird Man himself. The production is fully
costumed and staged and cast entirely of
Peabody Conservatory students with Peabody Opera Department faculty serving as its
artistic and music directors.
