UVI COURSE SUMMARY: Planning and administration of crime prevention methods; techniques of
handling juvenile offenders and victims; prevention and repression of delinquency; diagnosis and
referral; organization of community resources. Juvenile law and juvenile court procedures.
STUDENT GROUP ASSIGNMENT (summarized): The class was divided into 2 groups (St. Croix
students and St. Thomas students). One group was tasked with setting up a juvenile delinquency model:
a youth court, and the other group, a youth drug court. In putting together the youth court or youth drug
court, students incorporated concepts learned throughout the semester in conducting the various
subparts of the assignment. Additionally, students were required to present their findings as part of the
class presentation component. The final portion of the assignment was an in‐class presentation report
detailing the outcome of their lobbying/advocacy efforts with respect to their legislative senate office
visits and contacts with potential donors for their projects.
