Reflection on 1984 Synthesis Essay

Going to the synthesis essay I had confidence in writing the piece due to the
excessive synthesis/analysis essays we had done before. This time I had gone back
in rereading those past essays and made note to avoid making the same mistakes
again. The one prevalent error I had kept making was the use of outlining the paper
properly. I also, had to be sure in elaborating my explanations on each and every
source. This assignment reflected the effort I had put into it, however in the
revision I had made there were some parts that needed rewording in the
explanation.
One of the strengths I had achieved in this essay was of fully answering the
entire prompt. I had accomplished this task by including the evidence and support
needed for it. They were detailed and had through explanations of what I had
intended to argue for. Also, in that I had included connections to bigger topics that
expanded beyond the novel itself. This indication shows the boarder point of views
that would also affect the audience themselves, by reaching out into the real world
and adding their experiences into the text.
Although I had felt my passages drifted off from proving the one point I had
supportive paragraphs that prompted more examples to connect the two. If this had
been graded by a reader they wouldve seen the topic and understand the evidence

backing up the thesis. I wouldve liked to add more than what I had to further these
explanations. The next synthesis essay will be detailed thoroughly, with supporting
claims from the evidence we are to be given.
Id also like to improve on bringing the authors words into my paper, as that
is a valid and reliable source to depend on. It would greatly change the impact of
my argument if I had used the words of the novel itself. And of that novel, I would
try to incorporate specific examples of the text, not just the authors purpose and
words.
