Written Summary

The 1930s was a very important time! Many major events happened during this
time period. In the begging of the 1930s America was having a huge economic fall out.
Thousands of Americans were unemployed. Many blamed this on Herbert Hoover,
because of this for my political cartoon I drew money sick from Herbert Hoover. I did
this to symbolize everyones frustration with him at that time. Finally in 1932 Franklin D.
Roosevelt was elected president. Not everyone liked FDR though; in 1933 Joe Zangara
attempted to assassinate FDR. Thankfully he did not succeed. Franklin D. Roosevelt
created a plan called the New Deal this helped Americas economy drastically. The New
Deal created government programs to help people find work. The Great Depression was
just one of the problems the United States would face.
During the 1930s the Dust Bowl happened. The Dust Bowl is the name for the
Great Plains that was ruined from a drought in the 1930s. The wind picked up the soil and
caused many issues. The Dust Bowl was so bad that when it came people had to cover
their faces to protect their lungs from the dirt. This is why I chose to do a Lyrical
representation on this. I chose the song No Air by Jordan Sparks because it was so hard
for people to breath. The Dust Bowl effect many peoples lifes, there whole livestock
was ruined. It is no surprise 60% of the population picked up there stuff and left.
Another major event that impacted Americas was ww2 even though the US didnt
enter until 1941; ww2 began in 1939 when Germany attacked Poland. This will soon
become one of the bloodiest wars in history.

America was being put to the test but we did pull through. Even though the 1930s
brought many challenges it also brought success. In 1931 the United States officially got
a National Anthem. Herbert Hoover made it official. This brought the country pride.
Before this the United States had no national anthem at all. Also 1932 was the year
Amelia Earhart flew across the Atlantic Ocean, she was the first woman to do this.
Amelia Earhart was also the first person ever to make as solo flight across the Atlantic
Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Even though she went missing in 1937 Amelia Earhart
went down in history. Another positive thing that happened in the 1930s was a food that
is very well known was also invented. It is the chocolate chip cookie!
The 1930s was a decade filled with events that impacted todays society. Even
though the 1930s had some rocky times it made America stronger. It made America what
it is today. America overcame it all even when it looked like it was all going down hill,
America came through it. I am glad I got to expand my knowledge of the 1930s. It was
definitely one of the most important decades in history. Every country has a little history
from the 1930s; I proved this in my brochure of Boston. The 1930s was/is an important
time period.
