Perfect Society Assignment Guidelines

7th Grade English / Mr. Hartman & Ms. Jodzis


You will be completing an oral presentation telling your classmates about the society that you created
with your group. This project will include writing, speaking, listening, visuals, and editing. Each group
member needs to take on an individual task in order to complete this project. Follow the guidelines
below to begin creating your perfect society. May the odds be ever in your favor!
1. Cover sheet The cover sheet must include the name of your perfect society, a group-created logo or
drawing, and all names of the groups members.
2. Name of your perfect society Choose a creative and appropriate name to represent your new
society. Write a meaningful statement (3-5 sentences) that tells why your group chose this name.
3. Society Motto and Seal Create a slogan or motto that citizens of your society will follow, and draw a

utopian seal. Write a brief description (3-5 sentences) that explains the meaning of the motto and
seal that you chose.
4. Society Animal or Mascot What animal would best symbolize your society? Explain your choice in

3-5 sentences. For example, the animal that represents the United States is a bald eagle. Pick an
animal that represents what your society stands for.
5. List of Rules Develop a list of 10 rules that all community members must follow. Provide an

explanation for each rule.


6. Options: Choose two of the societal elements outlined on the societal elements page. Discuss how

both will be structured and organized in your society. How will they work? See specific instructions
on the societal elements page.

Societal Elements

Choose two of the following societal elements to include in your


perfect society. Each option should have 7-10 sentences written,
proofread, and edited.
Government and Values: What type of government would you have? Who is in charge? Who would make
and enforce the rules?
Family: What is the ideal family? How are families formed? Who will care for the children? Who will care for
the elderly? Are there any family traditions? (ex. Christmas, birthdays, etc.) Will your society have new
traditions?
Education and Careers: Describe your school setting. What age will students begin and end mandatory
education? What would they learn? Will girls and boys be treated differently? Who chooses the career each
member of the community will pursue? What types of careers will be available?
Law & Order What sort of system (or systems) will be needed to deal with those who break rules or those
who harm others? How will you enforce the rules of your society?
Technology and Location: Describe the level of technology. Will your community have futuristic technology or
go back to a simpler time? What transportation is available? What about communication. Describe the layout
and type of location or your community. What is the weather like? Do you have seasons? Do you live near the
ocean, desert, farm fields, etc.
