STRESS SURVEY WRITTEN REPORT

I chose to do my study on stress. The reason I went with stress as my topic choice is
because I have been very stressed with school, two jobs, money, you name it. All together it adds
up a load of stress. I was curious to see if others felt the same kind or amount of stress that I do.
I was hoping to have an equal amount of men and women take my survey so I could get a
better idea of what stresses each sex more. However, I was short on time and chose to post my
survey on Facebook for my friends and family to take knowing I would get a great response
there. I ended up have a majority of women take my survey, which while giving me 50 people I
needed, it didnt give me a very wide range of answers. In order to protect the identity of the
participants of my survey, I created an anonymous survey by removing any place that a name
could be placed.
The variables I chose were to see how other peoples stress compared to mine. How often
people feel stressed, what makes them stressed, and how it affects them. These were some of the
main questions I wanted answered. I know what my answers to the questions are and I was
curious to see if others felt or did the same as I. I also wanted to see different reactions people
had to stress how they deal with it. For instance, I know that when you exercise your body
releases chemicals called endorphins which trigger a positive feeling in the body.
The majority of the participants were between the ages of 30 and 59. 54% of them were
married and 31% had children. Only 49% of the participants felt stressed sometimes while 31%
said they felt stressed often, and 61% of them having a medium stress level lasting from one hour

to a few days. 40% said that work was their main stressor, 34% said it was family, 18% said it
was due to school, and 8% said their stress came from friends.
After completing this survey, I realized that I should have created an option to fil in an
answer instead of using sometimes as an answer option. To the questions What reactions does
your stress cause? 49% chose other, and 48% chose other to the question What do you do to
reduce your stress?. If I had an option to fill in an answer for those two questions I would have
gotten a better response.
Over all the participants are not very stressed out, and when they are stressed it doesnt
last for long. It was interesting to me that family was the second largest stressor after work. My
largest stressor is school, which came in third in cause of stress. I am not married and I do not
have children, if I did my answers may have differed drastically. Which in turn would have
changed the question I asked.
