The nasal cavity has two components: the vestibule (external) and the nasal cavity (internal). The vestibule, or outer nasal area, is lined by skin containing hair, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands, with a keratinized epithelium transitioning to respiratory epithelium inside. The nasal cavity contains nasal conchae which increase the surface area for airflow and smell. It also contains olfactory mucosa in the upper part which detects smells.
