Karena letakny a y an g j auh dari natural axis, sheer strake memiliki ketebalan yang paling besar dibandingkan dengan pelat lajur lainnya.

 Perhitungan ketebalan pelat dasar akibat beban ‐ beban yang diterima kapal seperti lateral pressure

Akibat tegangan yang besar, heavy shell plating dipasang pada gadinggading buritan ( stern frame ) akibat adanya bagian belakang lunas kapal ( heel ) dan boss balingbaling.
