SKIT
MIRIAM: I took him down to the river, just like you told me. I set the basket in the water.
He went right to sleep.
JOCHEBED: Did you hide him well?
MIRIAM: Of course. But after an hour, he started crying.
JOCHEBED: Did you rock him?
MIRIAM: I couldnt.
JOCHEBED: Why not?
MIRIAM: Because the princess was there.
JOCHEBED: The princess? Pharaohs daughter?
MIRIAM: Mom, calm down. It was just her and her servants. No bodyguards, no
soldiers.
JOCHEBED: Did she find him?
MIRIAM: Yes.
JOCHEBED: Oh no!
MIRIAM: Mom, its okay. I heard it all. She knew he was one of us, and she told her
maids not to tell anyone she was adopting him.
JOCHEBED: She what?
MIRIAM: She wants to raise him in the palace.
JOCHEBED: Praise God, my baby, hes going to live!
MIRIAM: Mom, theres more. The princess asked me to find a nursemaid, someone to
help raise him. I told him I knew someone.
JOCHEBED: What does she want me to do?
MIRIAM: Youre going to the palace, to raise your son.
JOCHEBED: I guess I better get my things.

OBJECT LESSON OR KIDS SERMON

ITEM NEEDED:
A baby doll
How many of you girls have a baby doll? How many of you have more than one baby
doll?
What are some of the things you do when you play with baby dolls?
Have any boys played with a baby doll? Its okay, be honest!
Baby dolls are more than just a play thing. They are practice. When you all are bigger and this goes for you boys too - many of you will become parents. Baby dolls are a way
to practice and copy the things you see your parents doing for you and your siblings.
They teach you how to feed, dress, and care for a baby, long before youll do it for real.
Its good to practice serving others when youre playing with dolls, but that doesnt
mean there arent things you can do to serve others now. All of you have parents,
grandparents, siblings, friends, and teachers. Every day, you see people who need
help. Sometimes people need a hand picking up something they dropped. Sometimes
they need more. Just because youre a kid doesnt mean you cant help.
Gods going to use you to do great things when you are bigger, but that doesnt mean
you have to wait. Start today. Look for the little things you can do to lend a hand, and
then do them. Even kids can be a big help if they are willing.

BABY SITTER RELAY
ITEMS NEEDED:
Two baby dolls, baby doll clothes, baby doll diapers, baby doll bottles
INSTRUCTIONS:
Choose two teams of four. Have each team stand in a line. The teams will work together to take care of a baby doll.
Hand a baby doll in just a diaper to the first team member on each team with a toy baby
bottle that drains like it is being drunk. When the race begins, the first person will feed
the baby bottle to the baby doll. They will then hand off to the second person, who will
remove the babys diaper. The third person will put a new diaper on the baby. The last
person will then put on an outfit. The first team to finish wins.
VARIATION:
This can also be a one person race, or it can simply be a race to change a baby doll
diaper.
WHATS THE POINT?
You dont have to be a grown up to help or care for others. You can do it even as a kid.

Exodus 2:1-10, Miriam Saves Baby Moses
INTRO
How many of you in here are an only child, the youngest, or the baby of the family? Let
me see your hands.
You lucky kids. You have no idea how good you have it. You see, all you youngest kids,
you will never hear your Mom or Dad say, Why cant you help out with your baby brother or sister? You are the baby! You never had to take a dirty diaper to the trash or feed
a baby or wipe up a mess they made. You had it easy.
As for all of you older kids well, you actually have an advantage your younger siblings
dont have. Do you know what that is? Experience. You, unlike your younger siblings,
have already had the opportunity to help care for someone else. Youve helped Mom
and Dad with the baby. You helped that baby learn to eat, to crawl, to walk, to play. And
while no one in here is ready to be a parent, you older kids know a few things about
what it takes to be a parent.
Today, as we continue our Kids in the Bible series, were going to talk about helping
others. Were going to talk about helping with baby brothers, but also helping anyone in
need. God made each of you to be smart, capable helpers, and even though youre not
grown ups, you can all lend a hand to people in need.
Todays story is about a big sister who helped out with her baby brother. This wasnt just
cleaning up baby barf or disposing diapers. This was life or death.

KIDS OF THE BIBLE: MIRIAM

LARGE GROUP LESSON

The Israelites were slaves in Egypt, and the wicked Pharaoh had ordered his soldiers
to kill every male child born to an Israelite. A young girl named Miriam was given the job
of protecting her brother. This is her story.
READ EXODUS 2:1-10
MAIN POINT
Miriam was just a girl. Had she come across some soldiers, she would have been helpless to stop them from murdering her brother. Yet Miriam did what she did out of love
for her family. She was the one who took Moses to the river and hid him. She was also
the one who ran and got her own mother, Moses mother, to be the babys nursemaid in
Pharaohs palace.
Miriam was more than just a great big sister. Shes an example for all of us. No matter
how young we are, we can be a help to someone in need. We can care for younger
brothers and sisters. We can also care for other people. We can care for anyone in
need that God puts in our path. All we need is a willing heart.
DRIVE IT HOME
One of the first ways we learn to serve others is by doing chores at home. It may seem
boring and annoying to you to have to do dishes, sweep the kitchen, scrub the toilets,
or vacuum the rugs, but doing chores is a way of helping. Moms and Dads work hard
to take care of their kids, and helping around the house is a way to give back and serve
the ones who have served you.
If you have younger siblings, helping them is another way to serve. Changing diapers,
picking up toys, even playing with them can be a big help to your mom and dad as well
as your little brother or sister.
Helping others isnt just an at home activity. Look around you. Is there an elderly neighbor who needs help cleaning the yard or walking the dog? Is there a grandparent who
could use some help around the house? And what about your friends at school? Why
not help someone with homework? Or help a teacher get the classroom clean at the
end of the day?
As you grow older, your opportunities for helping others will grow, but dont let anyone
try and tell you that right now you are too young. Serving others takes open eyes and a
willing heart. Look for people in need. Look for things that need to be done. Then do it.
Step up, lend a hand. Serve your family, your friends, and your neighbors. God will use
your service to spread his love to others, one person at a time.
