Walk Through
Used for observations of at least 20mins. No Post observation meeting is required. Must be submitted to employee within 10 days of the observation.
Walk throughs are observations conducted to meet TGAS requirements. They can be announced but are typically unannounced. Only observations
conducted by a licensed designated administrator are submitted as part of the evaluation. However walk throughs used for coaching/development
may be conducted by program analysts, coaches, mentors, department chairs and may be submitted by the employee as evidence in the
documentation log for evaluator consideration. The rating rubric is optional in a walkthrough.

The walk thru observation is typically unannounced. Not all standards will be observed in a
this setting. The description below defines the ratings for observations.
Not observed= The administrator did not have opportunity to observe due to time constraint, entry or exit in the lesson, or standard was not applicable.
Not Evident The teacher failed to demonstrate a required element of instruction. Administrators comments and suggestions should articulate why the
standard was not evident in the observation.
Working to proficiency Employee requires some growth in the standard. The employee may have proficiency in standard however development may be
suggested.
Demonstrating Proficiency Employee modeled competent instruction..expectations are being met.

Ms. Downey begins the class by having students update their agendas. Ms. Downey has posted important dates and assignments on the
SMART board which provides her the opportunity to check each student's agenda. Ms. Downey has posted the essential question, "Why
should natural resources be managed?", the mastery objective, "I will create a political cartoon informing people about managing
resources (renewable and nonrenewable)", and the daily agenda.

Ms. Downey has created several opportunities for students to be successful with organization and time management. Ms. Downey uses
positive reinforcement to prompt the class or individual students to remain on task or return to their tasks. Ms. Downey has a word wall
posted and an area dedicated to the student Interactive Notebooks for students to reference.

Students are working on different assignments depending on their individual progression with the unit. Some students are completing an
assessment and others are completing a vocabulary activity. The vocabulary activity requires students to identify how the word is
pronounced, describe its meaning, apply it to a sentence, and illustrate its meaning. The assignment provides depth outside of just
providing the definition of the word which, as one student describes, helps the student to remember the meaning of the word
throughout the unit and beyond; I'm able to use it outside of class as well.

The first assignment provides the opportunity for students to create meaningful connections to the academic vocabulary in a variety of
ways. Some students create very indepth illustrations of the word, while others focus more on the written expression. Ms. Downey is
utilizing the IPAD cart to administer her assessment in a Google application; great use of technology.
