Beginning:

I will introduce the students to the

new mini unit big question: How did
the 1st civilizations of Mesopotamia
& Sumer form and why are they
important?

In order to introduce the mini unit I

will have students participate in a
gallery walk that symbolizes the
seven characteristics of that make
up Philadelphias civilization

At this point classroom will be set up

in seven different stations at tables.

The table that the students are

currently sitting at will be there
starting point I will show the
students what number each station
is and the direction that they will
rotate in.

While at each station you will have 6

minutes to write notes and answer
the questions on your worksheet.

You may work at a level one only

when you are at your station.

When you here the teacher use the

get silent signal and say switch
you will stay silent until the teacher
says begin

After checking for understanding on

the rules and expectations students
will begin the gallery walk
Middle

Once students return back to their

original station they will be allowed
time to summarize and synthesize
their findings.
Each group will turn to the next
page in there packet.
One half on the worksheet will have
a section for students to work as a
group and decide which
station/evidence matches the
correct part of a civilization
At a level one voice complete the
worksheet with your group and
decide where each station belongs
under the seven characteristics of a
civilization. You have 5 minutes. Be
prepared to be called on at random
to share what your group decided.

End:
I will give the students the correct
answers for each station and they
will correct/ask questions
Independently students will have
time to complete the student task
When student task is completed
students will turn & talk to the
person next to them to share what
they have come up with.
When I say go, at a level 1 Turn &
Talk to the person next to you to
share your answers, you have 1

Philadelphia did not have that characteristic. Would it still be a civilization?
