Senior Aerospace Science Instructor
Colonel Mark Sullivan is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor of the Junior
ROTC program at Bitburg High School, Bitburg, Germany. In this capacity, he is
responsible for the development of curriculum and the conduct of courses that
serves the cadets of Bitburg H.S. The AFJROTC program includes National
Competitions, such as CyberPatriot and the College Options Academic Challenge,
and numerous competitive teams: Marksmanship, Rocketry, Armed Drill, Color
Guard, and Honor Guard. He actively promotes STEM subjects in the curriculum,
as well as through field studies. With over seven years of experience in JROTC,
Col Sullivan has taught at Lancaster H.S., Lancaster, CA and Desert H.S., Edwards
AFB, CA.
Colonel Sullivans previous appointments in Europe include Director, NATO Policy, in the Office of the Secretary of
Defense; Commandant, NATO School, Oberammergau, Germany, where he managed an educational facility, faculty
and staff representing 23 different nations and was responsible for all aspects of NATO operational education and
training programs; and Chief Force Planner (Air), Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), where he
was responsible for the planning and development of NATO Force Goals for future force levels, force structures,
readiness of Allied nations forces, and the assessment of NATO military capabilities. He was commissioned through
Air Force Officer Training School in 1982 and has held a variety of flying and staff assignments in the U.S. and
Europe and is a graduate of the USAFs Top Gun program. He has over 1600 flying hours in the F-111, and has
flight time in the NATO F-16 and Tornado aircraft as a NATO Tactical Evaluator. His resume reflects significant depth
and breadth in the fields of education, training, and policy.
