Objective:

The students are
acting as teachers to
a younger student
and are attempting
to explain how
place values work in
three digit numbers
to the best of their
ability.

You will be able to write a personal narrative that includes feelings, thoughts and
actions and will post the final passage to the class website.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.3 - Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated
event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and
feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
ISTE Standard - 1 Creativity and Innovation (b)
Student Role:
The student is to be themselves in order to be the author
of a personal narrative.
Audience: The audience will be the students peers and teacher.
Format:

The students will post this as a blog post on the class website.

Topic:
The student will write a short narrative about something
exciting they did over the summer.
Directions:
1. Student will brainstorm about something they did over the summer by
creating a web.
2. Student will then write a rough draft on this topic.
3. Students will have a peer review the draft and edit any mistakes.
4. Student will then have the teacher review and edit the draft.
5. Student will now begin to research how to write a personal narrative using
the resources below.
6. Once student is confident, they may write a final draft, type it, and post it
to the class website. (teacher will provide assistance in this step)

Assessment:
Prepare a final draft about what you did over the summer. The final product should
be about 4 sentences and posted to the class website. This will be worth 20 points.
There should be evidence of research.

RAFT Row 2
Objective:
You will be able to read and record a poem, then you will be able to add that
recording to a Voki displaying appropriate backgrounds and dress.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.2.5
Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or other visual displays
to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts,
and feelings.

favorite book or poem.
Topic:
Students will read a book passage aloud to the fans

Directions:
1. Student will begin by choosing a poem with their partner.
2. Student will then research how to be a good speaker using the resources
provided below.
3. Student will then practice speaking the poem to their partner with fluency
and expression over and over.
4. The partners will then watch the video about how to create a Voki listed
below.
5. Then, the partners will create one Voki each.
6. The partners will now go to the teacher to get their readings recorded.
These readings will be attached to the Voki.
7. The students will make sure the dress and setting are appropriate before
finishing and publishing.

RAFT Row 3
Objective:
You will be able to explain the different aspects of three digit numbers in a video
and will be able to post that video.
CCSS.Math.Content.2.NBT.A.1
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of
hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones.

3. Student will then check out a camera with the teacher.
4. Student will pair up and one student will film while the other talks and then
they will switch.
5. The students will video tape themselves explaining three digit numbers
and their different place values. This should be about a minute long.
6. The students will then go to the teacher so she can upload the video to
SchoolTube.com
