    Reflection for Wk 1 (29 Feb to 4 Mar)

    Immersion Prac

    Reflection
    I enjoyed very much the first 2 weeks (5 distributed days and then
    week 1) of this practice. On my last few practicums, I was not able to
    instil discipline as I was seen as more of their friend rather than a teacher.
    On this practicum, I had set up my persona as a teacher from the onset
    and the students learnt from Day 1 that I would not tolerate misbehaviour.
    As the days went past, I showed my friendly side more and more.
    One of the students came on Friday to me to tell me she liked my lessons
    as I could be funny and that I am nice too. Earlier on, she had thought I
    was very stern. A few boys also started sharing with me about sports and
    books.
    I hope that on this practicum, I am able to strike a consistent and
    comfortable balance so that the students still respect me even though I
    can be fun and friendly. I have seen many teachers do it successfully and I
    am excited to see how my emerging teaching personality develops over
    time.
