Module 2 Student Centred Pedagogies Assignment

Teaching Fundamental Basketball Skills to a Group of Year 6 Students
Organisational Framework

Aims
The aims of the lesson are to increase students knowledge and application of the basic skills
and techniques required to play basketball. Students will develop skills at a pace in which they
feel comfortable helping to facilitate a variety of factors including confidence, motivation and
enjoyment. It is also intended for students to form not only positive attitudes towards the sport
of basketball but a positive attitude towards physical activity as a whole.

Outcomes

Skill
Students will grasp the basic concepts of shooting, dribbling and passing. Students with prior
knowledge and experience will discover ways in which they can challenge themselves to further
enhance their skills.

Knowledge
Students will learn and understand how to perform certain skills as well as when they are best
utilised within a game. The more advanced students will learn ways in which they can transfer
their knowledge to help the novice students grasp the basic concepts.

Attitude
Students will form a positive attitude towards basketball as a result of being able to learn at
their own pace and not feel pressured to keep up with the more advanced students. Through
forming a positive attitude toward learning, it is intended for students to form a positive
attitude towards learning physical education and as a result increase their activity levels.

Pedagogies
A range of student-centred pedagogies will be utilised to facilitate student learning. Individual
progression allows for accommodation in individual differences between students in physical
and cognitive skill levels (Mosston & Ashworth, 2008). Individual progression also allows
students to become self-directed in their learning and allows them to exercise perseverance
and tenacity (Mosston & Ashworth, 2008). Guided discovery guides students through a series
of logical and sequential challenges and questions that allow them to reach a predetermined
response (Mosston & Ashworth, 2008). The use of guided discovery will allow students to help
build their knowledge base on how certain skills can be performed effectively in game
scenarios. Problem solving allows students to discover multiple responses to an individual
question/scenario (Mosston & Ashworth, 2008). To incorporate the problem solving style
teachers will decide the scenarios and logistics to be presented to the students, the students
will then explore and discover a multitude of ways to meet the requirements of the task.
