AoC10_L2 Card
Apollo's new AoC10_L2 card grooms multiple GbE packet flows to GE, 10 GE, or 10 GE wrapped in OTU2e
(P2P or ring). The card occupies a single slot and can be installed in all Apollo platforms. The AoC10_L2
supports the following features:
16 x GbE/FE SFP-based ports. These ports are typically client (UNI) ports. Electrical SFPs can be installed,
making the corresponding port 3-speed.
4 x 10GbE/OTU2e SFP+ based ports with EFEC and tunable SFP+ as uplinks for maximum reach and 88ch
support. These are typically NNI ports, though they can also be used as client ports.
Supports in-band management, including Apollo IMG, OSC, and standard Apollo GCC0 bytes of OTU2e.
The AoC10_L2 card supports a 56G MPLS-TP centralized switch, configurable for Provider Bridge (PB) or
MPLS-TP networks. Supported services include P2P, P2MP, MP2MP, and VLAN or MPLS-based.
Traffic management is based on the following mechanisms:
Ingress (and optionally egress) policing at UNI and E-NNI ports based on VLAN tagging (C-VLAN, S-VLAN,
untagged), 802.1p, and DSCP.
Forwarding is based on VLAN, MPLS label stack, and/or destination MAC address.
Egress scheduling combining strict priority with weighted round robin (WRR).
OAM mechanisms include 802.1ad (Link OAM), Ethernet CFM, BFD for MPLS-TP users, and Y.1731.
Sub-50 msec protection is supported with:
RSTP provides an additional protection mechanism in PB-based network segments. Ethernet link aggregation
(LAG) provides a mechanisms for protecting customer-facing ports as well as increasing their available
bandwidth.
The AoC10_L2 card grooms incoming data traffic, arriving from customer-facing ports, using L2 packet
switching. The card's 10GE ports can be wrapped with OTN OTU2e containers and "colored" with
user-provisioned wavelengths, for seamless integration with the Apollo OTN and/or photonic capabilities.
Using EFEC for OTU2e extends the reach of the optical signal, while tunable SFP+ transceivers facilitate usage
of any of 88 optical channels in the photonic network.

Two 10GE internal ports can be used to connect a pair of AoC10_L2 cards located in adjacent slots in a 9608
or 9624 platform, thus reducing the need for additional transceivers and fibers for these connections.

The AoC10_L2 is an MPLS-TP service card that supports an advanced Ethernet-based metro-core layer,
enabling NG Ethernet applications such as triple play, VPLS business connectivity, 3G Ethernet-based
aggregation, and CoC bandwidth applications. The AoC10_L2 cards provides complete PB (QinQ) and MPLS
switching functionality, offering scalability and smooth interoperability with IP/MPLS core routers. Data
features supported by the AoC10_L2 include:
Packet applications are augmented by OTN wrapping of 10GE ports into OTU2e, with the ability to tune
the port lasers, eliminating the need for transponders between the 10GE ports and the OTN/photonic
equipment.
OAM support:
MPLS-TP OAM.
PW OAM.
Port mirroring.
