Transcript of Quid Pro Quo is a Latin term that translates to This for that. Quid Pro Quo is a type of sexual harassment that occurs in the
audio:
workplace when a manager or someone is a position of authority requests sex, sexual favors or a sexual relationship in
exchange for either not firing or punishing the employee or in exchange for favors such as hiring, promotions, or raises.
Examples of this might include a manager telling his/her employee that they will be promoted in exchange for some type of
sexual favor. Another example might include a job applicant whose hiring decision was based on the acceptance or
rejection of sexual advances.

Criteria:
Behavior discriminates
Behavior is pervasive
Behavior is severe and disrupt works
Transcript of Hostile work environment is a type of harassment that occurs when an employee feels uncomfortable or scared to be in his
audio:
or her work space due to offensive behavior, intimidation or abuse by a coworker or superior. In order for harassment to be
considered hostile it must meet the following criteria: 1)The behavior discriminates against a protected classification such as
age, sex, religion, disability, or race 2)The behavior is pervasive, lasting over time, and not just limited to one or two remarks
that a coworker found annoying 3)The behavior is severe and seriously disrupts the employees work. Examples of hostile
work environment harassment include: unwelcomed touching, leering, sexually oriented jokes or cartoons, sexually oriented
comments, and even staring at an employees body. Hostile environment harassment can also occur based on racial or
religious jokes, ethnic insults, offensive emails relating to protected characteristics, and similar inappropriate workplace
behavior.

Instructions: To better assess your understanding of the harassment types, please read the
scenario below and decide what type of harassment has occurred.
Scenario One
Joey and his team created a hip chat group so they can share ideas and help support
each other with difficult issues. Joey thought it would be fun to start using the group
chat to share jokes with the team. Many of the jokes that Joey has been posting display
age-bias against the baby boomer generation. One of the team members in the group
chat, Becky, belongs to the baby boomer generation and finds the jokes to be very
offensive. Becky has asked Joey to stop posting the jokes but he told her she is
overreacting and now he not only sends the jokes but also teases her about her age
while at work. Becky is very frustrated and dreads coming into work every day because
of this.

Scenario Two
Sandy is a Consultant and recently had a performance
conversation with her manager in which she shared that she
felt she was ready to move into an Sr. Consultant role. Since
Sandy asked for the promotion, her supervisor has been
behaving differently. Sometimes he blocks her way and gets
very close when she tries to pass; other times he tells her
shes a good worker and rubs her back or shoulders. This
makes Sandy feel very uncomfortable and some days she
does not want to go to work because of it. One day Sandys
manager asks Sandy into his office and tells her that she isnt
ready for a promotion yet. However, if she agrees to go out
on a date with him, he could pull a few strings and get her
that promotion.

Quo is a type of sexual harassment that occurs when a manager or someone is a position of authority makes sexual
requests in exchange for either not firing or punishing the employee or in exchange for employment favors. Hostile work
environment sexual harassment occurs when an employee feels uncomfortable or scared to be in his or her work space due
to offensive behavior, intimidation or abuse by a coworker or superior. Now that you understand what the two different types of
sexual harassment are, you can help to prevent it from happening and ensure that SPS is a safe and respectful workplace.
