Uncle Bob falls in love: Part 2 The hypnotist

Advanced phrasal verbs (various)

Well, as youll remember, to cure Uncle Bobs insane jealousy I suggested he visit a hypnotist. Uncle
Bob wasnt sure about it but he eventually agreed to go along with the idea. But he was a difficult
customer. The hypnotist said she had never come up against anyone to stubborn. It took her an hour
to get him to sleep. Anyway, the hypnotist suggested Uncle Bob cook Eliza a special dinner to make
up for what he had said. When Uncle Bob finally came round, he was a different man. Full of energy,
he declared that he was going to cook Eliza the best meal she had ever had. But to add to the
romantic atmosphere he needed a French waiter to serve it all up. Unfortunately Uncle Bob didnt
know any French waiters, so he came up with a brilliant plan. I was to pretend to be a French waiter.
I pointed out that we would never get away with it since I didnt speak French, but Uncle told me to
trust him. I eventually came round to the plan. Unfortunately the meal didnt go down well with Eliza.
It turned out the hypnotist was a fan of fast food and her suggestion maybe wasnt the best. The
culinary extravaganza which Uncle Bob cooked turned out to be ... a hamburger and French fries,
served with a strawberry milkshake! But the story does have a happy ending. Uncle Bob and Eliza
got back together, and Eliza even offered to take me on as a waiter in her new restaurant.
