Table 6 : Percentage Points of the F Distribution

The table gives the value of F, v1 , v2 the 100 percentage point of the F distribution having v1 degrees of
freedom in the denominator.
For each pair of values of v1 and F, v1 , v2 is tabulated for , 0.05, 0.01, and 0.001

The lower percentage points of the distribution may be obtained from the relation:
F1 , v1 , v2 = 1 / F, v2 , v1
F , v1, v2

e.g. F.95;12,8 = 1/F.05;8,12 = 1/2.85 = 0.351

Table 12 : Kendalls Rank Correlation Coefficient

The table gives probability that the net total score S, will be greater than or equal to any possible positive value when the ranks of the two
sets are not correlated. For a two-tailed test, the tabulated probability corresponding to the observed value of S should be doubled (except for
S = 0)

For values of n greater than 10, it is sufficiently accurate to use the fact that rk is approximately normal with mean of zero and variance of:
2 (2n + 5)
9 n ( n 1)
Thus rk can be expressed as a standardized normal variate by writing:

S
0
n
(n 1)
=S
u= 2
2 (2n + 5)
9n (n 1)

18
n(n 1) (2n + 5)

The significance of S can then be tested using tables of the normal distribution.

29

Table 13 : Percentage Points of D in the One-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov Distribution

The table gives the values of D, the 100 percentage point of the D distribution for = 0.20, 0.15, 0.10, 0.05, and 0.01. D is the maximum
value of | FOBS (x)FEXP (x) |
Values of D greater than or equal to those tabulated for the given sample size n and significance level , suggest that the sample has not been
drawn from a population with the properties of the assumed theoretical distribution.

Table 14. Critical Values for the Durbin-Watson Statistic

This is used to test for serial correlation in a regression model. The null and alternative hypothesis are:
Ho there is no positive serial correlation in the error terms, if DWs < dl
Ha there is positive serial correlation in the error terms, if DWs > du
T

(t t 1)^2

The DW statistic, DW =

t=2

t ^ 2

t=1

where, t: regression residue for period t and K: Number of slope parameters in the model.

for large sample size. For this reason, the entries in col.3 and 4 are restricted to samples up to 10 only.

FOREWORD
This is to appreciate the efforts by Prof. Dr. R.S. Naagarazan, Director (A), Arunai
Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai and Dr. C. Muralidharan, Professor of
Manufacturing Engineering, Annamalai University, in updating and publishing
the second edition of the STATISTICAL DATA BOOK in an elegant and effective
manner as a reference book suitable to the Diploma, Bachelor and Master degree
courses in Engineering, Technology and Management, all over the country. The
authors have been teaching quality control and management for over 25 years in
an University.
Reflecting the needs and changes in the syllabus requirements, the authors
have included all relevant tables with necessary and sufficient details. The nonparametric tables and orthogonal arrays are essentially used by engineering
students in Design and Manufacturing fields and the research scholars in the
Engineering domain as well.
I am sure that the students, teachers, and research scholars in the Engineering
and Technology faculty will find this Data Book very useful. This deserves to be
prescribed as reference book.
I wish the authors a success in their endeavour to enhance the effectiveness of
the delivery of quality education to the student community.

PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION

Statistical Quality Control and Reliability Engineering is a subject, which has been
extensively used by the industries, especially due to the ISO 9001 : 2000 Quality
Management Systems and Requirements. Although there are many standard
textbooks available on this subject, no handy data book suitable for Management
and Engineering studies is available at present.
This data book is aimed at filling this gap. This book will be used by B.E./
B.Tech and P.G. Diploma students to refer the data quickly and compute the required
criteria/answer. This book is designed to be prescribed as a reference book and
used in the examinations for the U.G./P.G. studies in Industrial Engineering courses
offered in Indian universities.
I thank Mr. E.V. Velu, Founder and Chairman, AEC, and Dr. Pon Muthu,
Director AEC for encouraging and permitting me to write this book.
I thank Dr. R. Karthikeyan and Dr. P.R. Lakshmi Narayanan, and other faculty
members of Dept. of Production Engineering, Annamalai University, Dr. V.
Lakshminarayanan, HOD/Mechanical, Muthaiya Polytechnic, Dr. S. Rajesham,
HOD/Mech. and Mr. R. Thirumavalavan, Sr. Lecturer, AEC for their valuable
suggestions and co-operation in bringing out this book.
I thank my wife Mrs. Vaidehi for her patient and patent ideas, Ms. K. Kala
and Ms. Y. Suganthi, secretarial staff, AEC for their help in getting these data into
printable form.
Suggestions and feedback on this book are most welcome.
R.S. NAAGARAZAN

PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION

With the changes in the industry all over the world and a thrust towards Total
Quality Management, the concepts and practices of Six sigma, Zero defects, Justin-time are given prime importance and simultaneously the practices of Acceptance
sampling and concept of AOQL have become obsolete. This fact has necessitated
the revision of this data book.
The parametric and non-parametric designs have also been advocated in the
current engineering practice. Accordingly this data book has been revised and
classified into three sections to highlight their importance. This book is designed
to serve as Data Book, which can be used in the examination of B.E./B.Tech degree
courses and P.G. degree and Diploma courses in Industrial and Manufacturing
Engineering Disciplines.
We thank Mr. E.V. Velu, M.A., M.L.A., Founder and Chairman, Arunai
Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai, and Dr. L.B. Venkatarangan, Vice-Chancellor,
Annamalai University for their encouragement and permission for us to publish
this data book.
The authors thank profusely Dr. Anantharaman, HOD, Manufacturing
Engineering, Annamalai University, the Principal, A.E.C., Director, A.E.C., for their
enthusiasm, and support in bringing out this revision.
We express our gratitude to our life partners, for their whole-hearted
suggestions and ideas in editing, to M/s K. Sivagami, Junior Assistant, and other
staff of the Arunai Gateway, AEC for their assistance in compiling the data.

R.S. NAAGARAZAN

Finally, we thank and appreciate M/s New Age International Publishers,

New Delhi upon their swift action in releasing this second edition, in an appealing
form as you find it in your hands.
