medication?
It stimulates production of RBCs, WBCs
and platelets in patients with megaloblastic anemias. It acts against folic acid deficiency that results in production of defective DNA that leads to megaloblast formation and arrest of bone marrow maturation. The effectiveness can be evaluated by the CBC, and if the production of RBCs, WBCs and platelets increase. Slight flushing and feelings of warmth following IV administration.

Store at 15-30 degrees celcius and
protected from light. Pregnancy category A. Oral route is the most preferred. Obtain a careful history of dietary intake and drug/alcohol use prior to start of therapy. Keep prescriber informed of patients response to therapy. Remain under close medical supervision while taking folic acid therapy.
