Year 2 Content Description:


Money and Financial Mathematics [Use Coin Mat Software]
o Revise value of Australian coins and notes
o Order values of coins and notes
o Skip count collections of the same coin or note
o Identify equivalent values in collections of coins or notes
Year 3 Content Description:
Money and Financial Mathematics
o Represent a range of different money amounts
o Choose coins and notes to match purchase prices
o Calculate change to the nearest 5 cents
o Add totals of collections together

- Revise with students Australian coins and
their value. Use maths resources of
money that is in the classroom. Complete
activity with students Sorting Australian
Coins.
Tuesday 07/06/16 10:15am 11:00am
- Give students coins. Ask students some
questions together on the whiteboard: I
have $1.00, if I bought some lollies worth
30c how much change would I get back?
Complete with students asking students
to sort through their dollars to calculate
the change. Scaffold to students doing the
activity by themselves.
- Check as a class after 10 mins. (Or when
most students are finished).
- Students can colour in if time permits.

DOL Strategies:

Wednesday 08/06/16 10:15pm 11:00pm


- Revise with students tally marks. Then
ask students to flick a coin 30 times and
use tally marks to record whether the coin
landed on heads or tails.
- Revise picture graphs with students. Ask
students to make a picture graph on their
results that they achieved in the tally
mark activity.
Wednesday 08/06/16 12:15pm 12:45pm
- To extend on the previous lesson with
students today on picture graphs do an
activity with the students on graphing
Australian coins.
- Firstly, as a warm up do a picture graph
on the board of how many of a particular
item is in the classroom. Calculate with
tally marks and then create a simple
picture graph in the students numeracy
scrapbooks.
- Complete the graphing Australian coins
with the students.

- Revise coins with students and their
values.
- Give the students a handout of
identifying the value of Australian coins
and notes. Have both the handouts shrink
to fit an A4 piece of paper per student.
Students are to identify the notes and
coins and colour them the colour key
colour.
Friday 10/06/16 First Session
- Do a warm up on the board of buying an
item and receiving change. (from $5.00)
- Handout worksheet to students. Do the
first two questions on the sheet as a we
do.
- Check answers before the lesson is over.
- Revise with students what we were
working on. Calculating change.
Classroom Management: Students are to sit at
their desks and not to be out of their seats.
Differentiation: The lesson is to be scaffolded to
accommodate for all levels of students in the
classroom. On Fridays lesson, the year three
students should be able to complete the sheet
themselves. However the year two students will
need assistance.

Conclusion:

5 mins Revise with students coins and notes


and their values. Also revise with
students change to be given. Offer
feedback to students with response to
their answers on their learning.

the answers that they provide in relation to their learning of the content
of the lesson.
