Techniquo of Teaching

Siient Way is one of the effective language teaching techniques. It is pedagogical

approach to langr, rage tcaching baserl on the premise that the teacher should be as silent as
possible in the *l*r*roo* (about 90% of the time). The learners, thenn are encouraged to
produce as much language au possible. They have much tirne both to be exposed to the
language and to perf'orm prac.tice.
t6* learning hypothesis behind the Silent Way is that learning is facilitated if the
learners discover or create rather tha* remembers and repeats what is to be learned, Also,
stuclents iearn more effectively through problem solving involving the target language. It
viervs language lealning as a creative, problem-solving and discovering activity in rvhich the
learner is a principal actor rather than a bench*bound listener.
Basically, in learning tcachers prepare their students to have problem solving skill. And
the Silent Way c*n be clescribeil as a problem-solving apprcach to language learning, and is
summed up nicelf in Renjarnin Franklin's words:
"Tell me antl I frrrget,]'cach me and I remgnrber, Involve me and I learn"'
I conclude that the Siient Way is an appropriate language teaching technique.

Thc following text is for questions 44 to 48
There are a lot of discussions as to whether children should be given homework or not.
Some people clairn that children do enough work in school alrecdy. They also argue
that children have hobbies that they want to do after school, such as sports or music. A further
point they make is that a lot of homework is pointless and doesn't help the chilci learn at all.
I-Iou,ever, there are also strong arguments against this point of view. Parents and
teachers argue that it is imporlant to find out whether children can work on their own without
the support from the teacher. They say that the evening is a good time for children to sit down
and think about rarhat they have learned in school,
Frrthermore they claim that the school day is too shoft to get anything done that needs
doing and it makes sen$e to send home tasks like independent reading or further writing tasks
that don't need teacher's support.
On balance, I think that some homework is a good idea but that it should only given at
the weekenct
children have more tirne.

44. How do ws compare the seconcl and the tourth paragraph?
Botlr paragraphs argue that homework is necessary for students.
Unlilce the fbu:th paragraph, tlre sec.ond paragraph argue$ that homework is

The second paragraph supports that students need homework, but the fourth paragraph
does not.
The second paragraph and the fourth paragraph argue that students do not need

Many people call platypus duckbill because this animal has a bill like a duck's bill.
Platypus is an indigenous of Tasmania and southern and eastern Australia. Although it
lziys eggs instead of bearing its young alive, the platypus is a true mammal, not a reptile.
It nurses its young with milk as do other mammals.
. Platyfus has a flat tail and webbed feet. Its body length is 30 to 45 cm and covered
wiih a thick and woolly layer of fur. Its bill is detecting prey and stirring up mud.
Platypus' eyes and head are small. It has no ears but has ability to sense sound and light.
The male platypus has a hollow claw, or spur, on each hind leg. The spurs are
connected with poison glands. The platypus leg scratches and poisons its enemies with
the spurs.
Platypus lives in streams, rivers, and lakes. Female platypus usually digs burrows
in the streams or river banks. The bunows are blocked with soil to protect it from
intruders and flooding. On the other hand, male platypus does not need any burrow to
