DEPT OF
ELECTRICAL AND
ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON ADVANCED POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS TOOLS
1. Perform the load flow analysis for the given system in Annexure 1. Describe
the outcomes, Conclusions and recommendations.
2. Find out the grid power factor for the given system in Annexure 1. What is the
capacitor rating required to boost the grid power factor to 0.95?
3. Find out the fault current for a three phase fault is at midpoint of the
transmission Line 2 in the SMIB system shown in fig 1. Using simulation
software. Also calculate the voltage at Bus 1, 2 & 3. Verify the results with
manual calculation.

4. With necessary sequence component drawings find out the 3ph and SLG fault
current at Bus 2 for the given system shown in Fig 2 and verify the results
with manual calculation. Also find the voltage and current at bus 1 during
fault at bus 2.

5. Choose the tap ratio to maintain the 11kV voltage within +/- 5% tolerance for
the system shown in Fig 2 when the 110kV grid voltage fluctuates from -17.5
to +12.5% and load changes from 10MW to 38MW. (Note Connect a 100%
constant Power load at Bus 2 in shown figure)
6. Significance of transformer reactance on below points for the system shown
in Figure 2. Give the conclusion with the simulation results.
a. On reactive power consumption
b. Receiving end voltage
i. When the transformer is fully loaded by pure resistive load
ii. When the transformer is fully loaded by pure inductive load
iii. When the transformer is fully loaded by pure capacitive load
c. Maximum short circuit level
7. Find out the maximum through fault current for 11/0.433kV, 2.5 MVA
distribution transformer with 10% impedance using simulation software.
Verify the results with manual calculation.
8. Identify the types of buses in the given sld in Annexure 1.
