Executive Summary
This report is a survey conducted on an organization to see their main workplace issues.
In order to analyse the main workplace issues in the organization, a questionnaire is distributed
among several employees of the organization. The main findings from the survey are sum up and
represented graphically. Furthermore, recommendations will be discussed and a conclusion is
followed to end the report.

Introduction
This report is a part of the assignment under the module English for Workplace
Communication.
Purpose of this report is to identify the main workplace issues in a selected organization.
In order to identify the main issues in the workplace, and to gather information regarding the
views about several workplace issues, a survey is conducted by giving questionnaires to
employees of the Ministry of Health (MOH). Hence, this report presents the main findings of the
survey conducted; the main workplace issues in the organization and their views about those
issues. In addition to this, how and what can be done to improve or minimize the workplace
issues will be discussed.
This report contains an introduction of the selected organization followed by how the
survey is carried out and its results. Moreover, discussion of results obtained along with the
conclusion of the survey. Furthermore, based on the findings a recommendation will be given to
improve and minimize such workplace issues among the employees or the organization.

Introduction of Ministry of Health


Ministry of Health (MOH) is a government organization established in order for the
health, well-being and social protection of the people of the Republic of Maldives. Its mission is

to provide accessible and quality healthcare services and drug rehabilitation services and to
strengthen the mechanisms for protecting the rights of the children, women, and persons with
disabilities of the Maldives. Ministry of Healths vision is to make the Maldives a good model
society of socially protected and healthy individuals who are aware, who value their family ties
and live a healthy satisfying lives (Ministry of Health, 2016).
Ministry of Health is one of the largest government bodies that includes more than 8000
employees of both local and foreign. Therefore, among such a huge taskforce, there will be
various workplace issues among the employees. Ministry of Health consists of various
departments and 186 Government health facilities across the country. Departments include;
Health Protection Agency and Maldives Food and Drug Authority. Health facilities includes
Regional hospitals, Atoll hospitals and Health centers.

Methodology
Surveys can be conducted using various methods. The very methodology or the method
of data collection used in this survey is questionnaire method. Questionnaire used consists of
both open-ended and close-ended questions. It also includes qualitative and quantitative methods
as well. The questionnaires were not just randomly distributed among the employees. While
giving the questionnaires, I selected the employees with various levels of experience. Meaning
that all the level of experience were covered. In addition to this, using the interview method,
some of the staffs were interviewed in order to identify their personnel views regarding the given
workplace issue and how it can be solved or minimized more efficiently.

Main findings / Results


The results obtained from the questionnaire are categorized using each question in the
questionnaire. The questionnaire which is used in this survey is mainly classified into four
categories of workplace issues; Job Satisfaction, Remuneration, Work Environment and
Employee Retention. The main results obtained from the questionnaires are shown under each
sub-heading as per the workplace issues. The questionnaires are attached in the Annex of this
report for further reference.

Workplace Issues in Ministry of Health


As mentioned earlier in the introduction, MOH consists of more than 8000 employees of
both local and foreign. The main area or the scope that I have chosen for the survey is the staffs
of the Roashanee Building (MOH central office).
Just like any other organization, MOH also has several workplace issues. The following
are some of the issues and the results of the survey conducted among its employees.

As seen from the above chart, out of 20 employees, majority of the employees are
satisfied with their current work. However, some of the employees mentioned the need of proper
training to carry out their job tasks, and importance of avoiding discrimination among other
employees in order to satisfy the employees in doing their work. Even though the majority of the
staff mentioned that they are satisfied with their job, job satisfaction is one of the main work
places issues in each and every organization.

Remuneration
The results obtained from the survey indicates that the employees, especially the lower
level staff despite the level of their experience in the organization, they are not happy with their
salary or the remuneration. Furthermore, most of the staffs are not happy with the Overtime that
they are paid. This is basically due to the lower salary, since Overtime is calculated as a
percentage of the Basic Salary, meaning that if the salary is low, Overtime will also be low.

Work Environment
Workplace or the environment which the employees are working could also lead to
several workplace issues. Several environmental conditions such as lack of security, improper
bathroom facilities, and untidy work place could be some of the factors that would arise
workplace issues. The finding obtained shows the following results which indicates the
employees views on various working conditions at Ministry of Health.

Employee retention
Employee retention refers to the various policies and practices which let the employees
stick to an organization for a longer period of time (Management Study Guide, n.d.). The
diagram below shows the employees views about how or to how much extent the employer tries
to retain its employees. Its basically classified into three categories (Agree, Neutral and
Disagree) based on the experience level of the employees. Agree, Neutral and Disagree is
basically identified based on the number of ticks marked. For example, if the majority of ticks
are marked in the agree and strongly agree, its considered as an Agree.

Recommendation
Based on the finding there are few things that can be recommended for the organization
inorder to strengthen the workplace. Some of the main things than can be done, as per the
comments from the employees are as follows.

Treating fairly among employees

Giving opportunities to go further in the field and organization

Providing or assisting employees in gaining better salary increments

Meeting with the respected staff at least once a week, by the management or the supervisor
and providing proper feedback and explaining whats expected and what has to be done

More teamwork activities and leisure activities outside the work, such as retreats, and
gatherings

Providing enough tools and necessary items in order to carry out the tasks

Conclusion
In conclusion, workplace issues are one of the main problems faced in each and every
organization. These issues are aroused mainly due to various reasons. Some of these reasons
include, Poor working environment, Job demotivation or lack of job satisfaction, Poor
remuneration packages and weak employee retention programs or activities from the employer.
According to the survey carried out, the above workplace issues are common in the
Ministry of Health. And most of the employees believe that those minor issues can be simplified
and solved in an easy manner.
