Reflection Connecting Outcomes,

Standards, and Artifacts
1. The Principal Presentation was created
as a advocacy tool for a strong media
center program and the need for a media
specialist. It allowed me to investigate
key components of strong programs and
what is needed in a strong program.
(AASL 4.4, PSC/NCATE 1.e)
2. Once I went through the process of
completing a library budget, I was made
more aware of how much money is
allotted to the media program, and how
quickly that money runs out when
running an effective program. This
project allowed me to start thinking of
how I will make choices regarding
purchases when I responsible for a media
center and its budget. (AASL 5.3)
3. Completing the Pathfinder as part of a
group, allowed me to explore a target
group of learners and their learning,
specifically 5th Grade Science Students.
Through the development of our team
Wiki, I participated in research and
knowledge creation, as well as integrated
instructional technology into the Georgia

1. By creating a Follett book order for
an actual media center, I was able to get
experience in the actual selection process
for a media center. Through the process,
I had to discover the curriculum needs of
the school, the needs of the media center,
complete a collection analysis, get an
idea of what needed to be weeded, and
what areas needed the most updating or
expanding. I also had to look at
circulation to get a feel for what is
popular with students and teachers.
(AASL 2.1, 2.2, PSC/NCATE 4.a)
2. The Impact on Learning Project
allowed me to really dive into the teacher
role of the media specialist, as well as
instructional partner. I began by working
with the media specialist to identify a
group of students to begin teaching the
Dewey Decimal system. I worked with
several adults, including student teachers
to carry out the lessons. Through the use
of a pre-test/post-test, I was able to see
meaningful gains overall and in a
subgroup of male students. I also planned
a variety of learning activities so that all
students would have the opportunity to
learn, including scavenger hunt,
PowerPoint presentation, bookmarks,
memory games, and card games. (AASL
1.2, 1.3, PSC/NCATE 1.f, 3.c, 4.a)

3. Through creating mock media center

website, I was able to explore various
ideas of how best to develop, implement,
and evaluate learning opportunities for
all students. I incorporated reading
promotion through the addition of a
TumbleBooks page, as well as a book of
the month. I also included policies and
procedures, a student page with links to
Find A Book, Destiny Quest, and
featured Book Talk. I also included a
parent page with information about
Cyber safety and upcoming events, as
well as teacher page with featured
professional development. (AASL 1.2,
1.3, 2.2, 3.2, 3.3, PSC/NCATE 3.c, 7d)
1. One of my roles as a LMS, is to be a
teacher to not only students, but at times,
a teacher to other teachers. I created an
online professional development unit that
a teacher could do in their own time
regarding how to create a classroom
website and the importance of such in
todays 21st century classroom. (AASL
1.4, 4.2, 4.3, PSC/NCATE 1.g)
2. I created a yearlong professional
development calendar. This provided me
with a good opportunity to think about
what would be important and helpful to
other teachers, and also the order in
which it would need to be presented. For
example, a professional development
unit about Copyright is much more
meaningful at the beginning of year,
rather than the end. (AASL 4.1, 4.2, 4.3,
PSC/NCATE 1.g)

3. I completed a paper regarding a

current issue discussing allowing access
to blocked sites such as Youtube and
WIkispaces. Through this paper, I was
able to learn more about CIPA and its
specific regulations, such as having a
clear internet safety policy. Through
writing the paper, I was able to advocate
for the integration of 21st century
technology, as well as the need for
professional ethics in accessing the
internet and it resources. (AASL 1.4,
5.2, PSC/NCATE 1.g)
1. In writing the Curriculum Issues paper
regarding Collaboration, I was able to
explore the need for increased
collaboration between general education
and special education teachers. Based
upon research, it has been shown that
effective collaboration between these 2
groups allows for the better education of
all students, both general and special
education. Through the research and
writing of this paper, I feel that I gained
knowledge and insight into being a more
effect LMS in regards to seving the
needs of diverse populations. (AASL 1.1,
1.2, 2.3, 5.4, PSC/NCATE 1.f, 3.c, 4.d,
7.c)
2. By completing the Instructional
Design Models paper, I researched
different research models and how to use
them in the classroom. As a special
education teacher, I was able to identify
useful models that I began to implement

my planning process as well. (AASL
1.1, 1.2, 2.3, 5.4, PSC/NCATE 1.f, 3.c,
4.a)
3. In completing the Student Instruction
project, I was able to take a deeper lock
at the demographics of a specific school,
the learner characteristics of my chosen
students, potential demographic impact
on assessment and instructional
strategies. I then followed through the
process of planning a unit of instruction
geared toward a self-contained special
education classroom. From the needs
assessment to the instructional strategies
to the evaluation of the plan, I was able
to demonstrate to ability to serve the
needs a of a diverse group of students,
including those with special needs.
(AASL 1.1, 1.2, 2.3, 5.4, PSC/NCATE
1.f, 3.c, 4.a, 4.d, 7.c)
