ABSTRACT
Palm kernel shells (Eleis Guineensis Jacq) and cassava peel (Manihot
Utilissima) has a high potential to be used as raw material for the manufacture of
charcoal briquettes. This research have been conducted using the method of
composing, mixing, printing, compression, drying and continued with the analysis
of the quality of briquettes (moisture, ash content, fixed carbon, volatile matter
and calorific value). The results showed a mixture of palm kernel shells and
cassava peel could serve as briquettes. Where the variation of palm kernel shells
and cassava peel with the best quality in this study is obtained on the composition
of 75 % palm kernel shells and 25% cassava peel is the calorific value of 5830
Cal/g, volatile matter content 38.25 %, ash content of 10.26 %, the water content
of 3.23 % and fixed carbon content of 48.27 %. For briquettes 100 % palm kernel
shells also have a good quality briquettes which the calorific value of 6114 Cal/g,
volatile matter content of 40.82 %, 6.49 % ash content, water content of 3.39 %
and fixed carbon 49.31 %.
