Section 1: Directed Writing

Imagine that you are Elena and you are going to answer Freyas letter.
Write your letter, which will be published in the magazine.
In your letter you should:
identify and evaluate Freyas arguments and concerns
give Freya suitable advice for her situation.
Base your letter on what you have read in the passage, but be careful to use your own words.
Address each of the two bullet points.
Begin your letter, Dear Freya,
I was sad to read your letter and I understand your feelings. However, I am sure that your situation is
not as hopeless as you imagine.
Write about 250 to 350 words.

particularly happy or sad occasion. Describe in detail the scene you remember (real or
imaginary) and your feelings at that time.

(b) Describe a person (real or imaginary) who immediately appears to be either sinister or kind
and trustworthy. Pay particular attention to her/his physical features and mannerisms

(a) You have the power to go back 24 hours to change what happened or what was said. Write a
story involving this power, making it clear why you needed to make changes.
