Milk-production industries have increasing waste accumulation of spilled powdered milk.
Since it cannot be sell to consumers, these wastes accumulates. Coincidentally, the waste plastic generation and usage does not also slows down. With the rapid growth of the Philippine economy, the generation and usage of plastic will also increase. In order to address both sides, protein-based films are being studied to substitute or provide secondary packaging to materials which degrades. Casein, as the main protein of milk, is the main raw material which will be produced through chemical treatment. Chemical treatment methods involves the addition of plasticizer and in this study, added with a cross-linking agent of aldehyde to improve the mechanical and barrier properties as well as increases its biodegradability and introduced to post-heat treatment curing process to strengthen thermal cross-linking network.
