Explain why you chose the issue:

If you were really serious about educational technology (McLeod,
2010) was chosen because this is something as educators we face on a daily
basis. In order for educators to be serious about educational technology, one
must address the issues I order for them to be corrected. So what better way
than to put the problems out there and tackle them head on.
What is the importance of the issue to education?
In the title itself is a bold statement that reach out grab your attention.
Many individuals are not/nor take educational technology serious. Some
individuals tend to shy away from technology because of the lack of
knowledge that they have, which is not beneficial to the students they
encounter. Embracing and understanding what technology has to offer is a
vital key in the development of career readiness for students. Education is
embarking on the journey that will enable students to compete with
countries and jobs. So as a teacher get on board the ship as it leaves the
dock to a sea of opportunities for both you and your students.
Summary:
Technology is everywhere even in education. As stated in Education
Week (Herold, 2016) public schools in the United States now furnish at least
one computer for every five student. And in 2015-16, for the first time, more
state standardized tests for elementary and middle school was administrated
via technology rather than paper and pencil. This being said educators need
to understand that technology is the wave of the 21st century and beyond, so
instead of shying away from technology educate our students on how to use
technology the proper way and how to protect themselves from predators
instead of acting like it do not exists.
Even in Implementing New Educational Technology for the 21st
Century, DoD Leadership Development (Davis, 2014) states how leaders are
meeting challenges of tomorrows non-traditional technology conflicts. Taking
advantage of new pedagogical and technological methods will provide
learners with perceived threat reduction throughout the education process.
There is nothing transformative about students having technology only if you
are able to reach higher-order teaching and learning. If educators/schools
take technology and use it like a textbook or just have teachers display

PowerPoint presentations or employ drill-and-kill software, they might as well

not even have technology.
Social sites are becoming more and more popular even in the
classroom setting. Many teachers are hesitant to use such prevalent tools
given their inherent possibility of exposing students to inappropriate content.
Site such as Facebook and Twitter are different types of tools that have their
place in the social networking sphere. Twitter is more widely used in the
classroom verses Facebook. If teachers were more informed of how a
Facebook page and profiles can be designed to bestow an appropriate level
of privacy for course work, teachers and school administrators might be
more open to considering its use.
