Have you ever eaten at Mac Donald͛s , Burger King, or any other fast food restaurant? I͛m sure u have.

Today more than half of adults in Canada eat at fast food restaurant at least once per week, and aren͛t
consuming enough fruit, vegetables, and milk. Canada is becoming the next fast food nation, and all of
those fast foods are containing ingredients that are giving many people diabetes, and some are even
diagnosed with cancer. Good afternoon honourable judges, guests, teachers and fellow students. I am
here to tell you the health concerns of these food choices.

(Today) Canadians are opting for fast food instead of healthier foods, and generally don͛t have a
balanced diet, according to studies. The study found that Canadians aren͛t consuming enough healthy
foods, and are having more than their recommended share of their calories from fat. The food guide
recommends that the fast food͛s should be consumed once a month , but the study also found that right
after grain products, fast food ranks second as the top energy provider, supplying 22% of daily calories
for both children and adults. Canadians are only supposed to have a minimum or five daily servings of
fruits and vegetables, but again according to the study, about 50% of adults in Canada are meeting the
target, and 7 out of 10 children aged 4 to 8, aren͛t meeting the target.

(Calories) A meal at Mac Donald͛s or burger King would equal about 1470 calories, and that is just for a
burger, fries, and a shake, and kids should only have 20200 calories per day. That͛s more than half, and
that͛s just one meal, and you͛re most likely to snack in between meals as well.

Primarily in North America there are many detrimental fast food restaurants, the principle among them
being Mac Donald͛s, one of the largest and unhealthiest of these fast food industries.

(U.S.A) In the U.S.A, 1 in 4 Americans͛ visit Mac Donald͛s every day, more than 1 million animals are
eaten every hour, and 60% of American͛s are obese. Also, Mac Donald͛s represents 43% of the total U.S
fast food market and 40% of American͛s eat out every day.

(Percents/info) In 1972, we spent 3 billion a year on fast food, now we spend more than 110 billion a
year. Mac Donald͛s serve 46 million people every day, and own more than 30,000 restaurants is over
100 countries, on 6 continents.

(Children facts) Every child knows who Ronald Macdonald is, many even know before they can speak.
Mac Donald͛s have targeted children especially, by luring them with toys, and fun play grounds to play
after they have eaten. Mac Donald͛s distributes more toys then toys R͛ US, and the average child see͛s
10,000 advertisements per year.
(obesity) fast food is a major contribution to the obesity outbreak, and if left ignored, obesity will
surpass smoking as the leading cause of preventable deaths. One in every 3 children born in the year of
2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. Obesity has been linked to:

heart disease, adult onset diabetes, stroke, gall bladder disease, sleep apnea, breast and colon cancer,
breathlessness, asthma, impaired fertility, reproductive hormone abnormalities, and lower back pain,
that͛s only 12 out of 22 causes!

Diabetes will cut 17 to 27 years off your life.
