Hello folks,
This is the 3rd in a series of a dozen AAIEE! Blogs, that I'll be posting here. This one deals with our GROWING JOBLESS ECONOMY.
In this note we explore some poor policies and choices made by the Obama Administration for leading the Nation out of the current, major economic recession. But of equal importance, we explore - - using a recent analysis by Andy Grove of INTEL fame - - the entire neglect of a more fundamental JOBS problem that is a major cloud hanging over America's future.
Hope you'll follow the LINK and share some of your own thoughts here at this website.

THE CITIZENS SENSE E'RE ON THE RONG PATH
A new Reuters/lpsos poll shows that 72 percent of people are very worried about joblessness - - and for good reason:
• Rising jobless claims.
• Companies like Assurant Health will slash 130 jobs in Milwaukee and Plymouth, MN, to prepare for costly Obamacare mandates.
• Officials of medical device firms in MA, say they must cut back on costs and jobs due to a new Obamacare tax on their products.
• Executives of White Castle and IHOP, say they will be forced into layoffs and premium hikes to cope with the Obamacare's $3,000- per-employee penalty on companies whose workers pay more than 9.5 percent of household income for company-provided insurance. • Obamacare now requires Mom-and-Pop enterprises to file IRS 1099 forms for every vendor from whom they purchase $600 or more in goods, adding to paperwork and legal costs.

The total number of job openings in Junewas2.9 million, with the total number of unemployed workers at 14.6 million. This means that the ratio of unemployed workers to job openings was 5.0- to-1, a slight improvementfrom May. BUT, for every four out of five unemployed workers there simply are no jobs).

OTHER THOUGHTS RE AMERICA'S FUTURE.JOBS
ITHINKANDYGROVEHAS DONEA FINE SERVICE BY POINTING OUT THE JOBS PROBLEM IN A MORE FUNDAMENTAL LIGHT. AND I THINK HISANALYSISOFTHEISSUE AND NEED FOR A MORE NATIONAL FOCUS ON A JOB-CENTRIC POLICY IS ACCURATE. HOWEVER, I'M NOT SOLD ON A MAJOR ROLE FOR TH E GOVERNMENT ANDIOR IMPORT FEES AS PART OFTHE SOLUTION. BUT CLEARLY, ANDY'S PRIOR SUCCESS WITH INTEL DESERVES CONSIDERABLE RESPECT.
MY OWN THOUGHTS LIE TOWARD GOV'T INCENTIVIZATION OF STRENGTH IN SOME CRITICAL "SCALING" AND MANUFACTURING JOBS. BUTI THINK MORE DEBATE IS REQUIRED ASTO HOW SUCH JOB SECTORS ARE SELECTED, TOGETHER WITH PROVISIONS THAT LIMIT THE GOVERNMENT ROLE TO ASSURE THAT (1) THE GOV'T IS NEVER SOLELY PICKING WINNER AND LOSER INDUSTRIES, AND (2) POLITICAL CONTAMINATION OFTHE PROCESS IS SOLIDLY FIRE-WALLED.
BEYONDTHAT, I THINK DEEPER THOUGHT IS NECESSARY AND WOULD WELCOME ANY IDEAS FROM READERS OF THIS NOTE.

A LITTLE PLAIN TALK:
The points of this BLOG CAN BE SUMMARIZED IN TWO SEPARATE, BUT RELATED THOUGHTS:
1. CU RRENT POLICY: TH E OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS SPENT MUCH AND ACHIEVED LITTLE ON THE CRITICAL JOBLESSNESS FRONT. WITHOUT JOB INCREASES, HOUSING AND CONSUMER SPENDING WILL EXTEND THIS TIME OF PAIN FOR MANY AMERICAN FAMILIES.
CURRENT ECONOMIC FACTORS ARE NOT HOPEFUL FOR A STRONG RECOVERY. AND MANYOFTHESEFACTORSSTEM FROM THIS ADMINISTRATION'S IDEOLOGIC INCLINATIONS.
2. FORESIGHT: BUTTHE BIGGEST WORRYISTHE LACK OF FORESIGHT, AND POSSIBLY EVEN INTEREST, IN STAKING OUT A PATH TO ENCOURAGE PRIVATE ENTERPRISE TO ENTER AND WIN THE "SCALING" COMPETITION WHICH SEEMS KEY TO
FUTURE AMERICAN PROSPERITY. (cont'd) 7
2. FORESIGHT (cont'd):
THE SCALING ISSUE IS CROWDED OFF THE TABLE WITH MULTIPLE SCHEMES TO 'REDISTRIBUTE THE PIE' RATHER THAN ENSURING THAT WE WILL HAVE ANY PIE TO DISTRIBUTE.
INSTEAD, FOLLOWING ANDY GROVE, AMERICA MUST DEVELOP A "JOBS-CENTRIC" ECONOMIC POLICY FOCUSED ON ENCOURAGING NEW CONCEPTUAL IDEAS, THEN SU PPORTING THOSE THROUGH
TH E DESIGN I BUILD I DEPLOY I IMPROVE PHASES THAT CONSTITUTE TH E COMPLETE CYCLE OF INNOVATION. THAT CYCLE U SED TO BE THE HALLMARK OF AMERICAN ENTERPRISE AND RICHLY DIVERSE CITIZEN OCCUPATIONS. WE'VE FORGOTTEN THAT IMPORTANT INGREDIENT OF SUCCESS. GOING FORWARD, WE NEED SOME DEEP THOUGHT REGARDING THE LIMITED ROLE FOR GOV'T IN HELPING MOBILIZETHEENERGIES OFOUR CITIZENRY AND PRIVATE ENTERPRISES.

DEALOGUE Persistent belief in Keynesian economics and distrust of American initiative and private enterprise. This despite many failed applications in other Nations.
THE OBAMA ,",OBLESS RECOVERY - - AN AAIEE ! SITUATION?
AMATEUR Delegated economic program to left wing Congressionals and foisted wholly partisan, one-sided policies on the Nation.
ARROGANT Refused to listen to arguments that higher taxes and bigger government will just make things worse.
ERROR-PRONE Failed to acknowledge, despite many analyst warnings that job emphasis and the efforts of Small Business must be the path to success.
ERRATIC Tried to exploit the economic crisis to expand Gov't control in many areas. Forged ahead with budget-busting expenditure after expenditure while leaving some fundamental JOBS considerations out of the calculus.
