Quarter 1/3

1. Tessellation Design. Please review the art of M.C. Escher. For this project you
will explore your own tessellation. To begin view site:
http://www.iproject.com/escher/teaching/maketessel.html &
http://www.jimmcneill.com/demo.html. These sites will help greatly in explaining
the basic process to creating a tessellation. But I want you to take yours a step
further by showing a transformation from side to side, corner to corner, or top to
bottom. 12x18, due by 2/17/06
2. Text with Hands and Feet. You will explore the art of sign language and visual
literacy. Please see instructions and examples. 16x20, due by 3/23/06

Quarter 2/4

1. Animals in Art. Using Colored Pencil, Pencil, or Charcoal you will create a
composition that includes an animal or animal parts. You must include more than
just the animal – this is NOT an animal portrait. Include: UNITY – Find some
element in your piece that ties your composition together- it could be shape, color,
or texture. BALANCE - Decide if this will be a symmetrical or asymmetrical
composition. MEDIA: Your choice of media, or mixed media. 12 x 18 due by
4/18/06
2. Archimoldo self-portrait. View and discuss Renaissance art and critique portraits
by Arcimboldo. Think about where ideas come from? You will create your own
self portrait through imagery, symbolism - create self-identity. Be sure to utilize
elements and principles effectively in composition while demonstrating skill and
craftsmanship in using materials. 18 x 24, due by 5/19/06
3. Final 5x7, should be your best work (seniors must have all work turned your last
day of classes.)
