MORNING NOTE 18 OCT, 2010


MARKET INSIGHTS: On Thursday Oct 15 2010,The domestic markets suffered severe cuts on

the last trading day of the week; some huge FII selling was reported ahead of the mega IPO of
INDEX Close Chg Chg Coal India that will open on Monday, the very first day of the next week. The start of the day
Sensex 20125 -372 -1.81% was good despite weak global cues, on the back of good earnings announcement by the IT
bellwether 'Infosys Technology'. The US markets closed lower overnight on getting

disappointing jobs data while the regional markets barring china were not looking very

started taking the markets into the negative terrain. The selling that was initially limited to

unexpected rise in inflation for the September acted as a catalyst for the market decline and the

The BSE Sensex plummeted 392.26 points or 1.91% to settle at 20,105.38 (Provisional)
F&O Total 137903 -0.99% while the S&P CNX Nifty plunged 121.85 points or 1.97% to end at 6,055.50
(Provisionally).The BSE Sensex touched a high and a low of 20,578.45 and 20,090.18
NET INFLOWS (Rs Crs) Chg respectively. There were 1 advance against 29 declines on the index. (Provisional). The
S&P CNX Nifty touched a high and a low of 6200.60 and 6050.35, respectively

There were no gainers on the BSE sectoral space, while Information Technology (IT)
down 3.21%, Teck down 3.00%, Auto down 1.97%, Bankex down 1.84% and Oil & Gas
FII OPEN INTEREST (Crs) Chg down 1.69% were the major losers on the BSE sectoral space. The broader indices
FII Index Futures 15753 -2.94% continued to disappoint today as well; the BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices declined
1.26% and 0.75% respectively. There were 988 advances against 2037 declines on the

Asian equity indices finished mostly in the negative terrain on the last trading day of the

Jakarta Composite fell 21.45 points or 0.59% to 3,597.03, KLSE Composite dipped 6.52
World Indices Chg points or 0.44% to 1,489.86, Nikkei 225 declined 83.26 points or 0.87% to 9,500.25 and
Taiwan Weighted slipped 10.15 points or 0.12% to 8,205.30.On the flip side, Shanghai

Composite surged 91.52 points or 3.18% to 2,971.16, Straits Times gained 9.25 points or
Nasdaq 2469 1.40% 0.29% to 3,204.27 and Seoul Composite was up by 2.53 points or 0.13% to 1,902.29.
FTSE 100 5703 -0.42% The headline wholesale price index (WPI) for the month of September rose by 0.6% to
141.1 from 140.3 for the previous month. As a result, the annual rate of inflation stood at
Commodity Chg 8.62% in September as compared to 8.51% for the previous month.

the domestic indices as spot index posted heavy losses in the last session. For today’s session 6000 will be the key support zone where we
