Drug to Improve Mental Performance

Some scientists have predicted that healthy adults and children may one day take drugs to
improve their intelligence and intellectual performance.  A research group has suggested that
such drugs might become as common as coffee or tea within the next couple of decades.
To counter this, students taking exams might have to take drugs tests like athletes.  There
are already drugs that are known to improve mental performance, like Ritalin, which is given to
children with problems concentrating.  A drug given to people with trouble sleeping also helps
people remember numbers.
These drugs raise serious legal and moral questions, but people already take vitamins to
help them remember things better, so it will not be a simple problem to solve.  It will probably be

examination.

Barbara couldn’t take it any more. Her upstairs neighbor was blasting his stereo again. She
had asked him twice already to turn the volume down. The first time she asked, he was surprised.

Avian Influenza

8
The attack of avian influenza has been identified in birds across Europe and Asia. Millions of
birds and at least 60 people have died.
Bird flu has caught lots of media attention lately and some health experts are warning of a
potential global pandemic. But bird flu is not a recent phenomenon, and it is unknown in the

no danger in eating poultry or poultry products as long as the food is cooked properly. So if you
have meat from an infected bird or an egg from an infected bird and you cook it properly, it

Energy
Energy is one of the most fundamental parts of our universe. We use energy to do work. Energy lights our
cities. Energy powers our vehicles, trains, planes and rockets. Energy warms our homes, cooks our food,
plays our music, and gives us pictures on television. Energy powers machinery in factories and tractors on
a farm.
Energy from the sun gives us light during the day. It dries our clothes when they're
hanging outside on a clothes line. It helps plants grow. Energy stored in plants is eaten by
animals, giving them energy. And predator animals eat their prey, which gives the predator
animal energy. Everything we do is connected to energy in one form or another.
Energy is defined as: "the ability to do work."
When we eat, our bodies transform the energy stored in the food into energy to do work.
When we run or walk, we "burn" food energy in our bodies. When we think or read or write, we
are also doing work. Many times it's really hard work! Cars, planes, light bulbs, boats and
machinery also transform energy into work. Work means moving something, lifting something,
warming something, lighting something. All these are a few of the various types of work. But

The Vain Little Mouse

Little Mouse lived in a beautiful small house. One day, when she was sweeping the floor, she found a
coin.

She said,”With this coin, I’m going to buy a nice red bow for my hair. I’ll look beautiful!”

She was really beautiful with the red bow in her hair. She sat next to the window so that everybody
could see her.

“Little mouse, you look pretty,” said the donkey “will you marry me?”.

And she asked, “What will you do at night?”

“I will bray like this,” said the donkey. And he brayed.

“Oh, no. I’ll get frightened,” said the Little Mouse.

Then the dog asked her, “Little Mouse, you look beautiful. Why don’t you marry me?”

“What will you do at night?” said the Mouse.

“I will bark like this,” said the dog. And he barked.
