After reviewing the TEKS for your subject or grade level, please discuss your intial impression of

the TEKS. In addition to how you feel about them as a resource, be sure to include what you see
as their strengths and weaknesses and how you think you could plan to address them all in only
9 months!!

Having an understanding and guidance of what the Elementary children learn and do during a
school year is what the TESK is for. After reading the complete package, I noticed that the TESK
specify in very detail what the child should learn in what grade. The TESK is a great resource
for a teacher, since it allowed her to make a lesson plan according to what the child is expected
to lean accouding to the state of Texas.

I am going to be sincere; my first impression is that the TESk is a little bit overwhelming. I think
it is too much to cover during a school year. But at the same time, with a bit of creativity the
teacher can group some of the activities together to fulfill the TESK requirements. I feel I
would be a great help if the curriculum provide not just the guidelines, but also a suggested
methology of how to implement each particular section. As an example, The lesson might be “ C
is for car”, in this lesson the student will recognize the beginning consonant sound of “C” . In
this lesson the teacher will read from a text book (the Big Red Car). The subject areas covered
will be reading/letter sound relationship, reading/print awareness, reading phonological
awareness, which will cover the section on the TESK (110.3.17 A,B,C.D). If the curriculum
would provide a matrix with such information as the one mention above, the instructor with have
a clear idea of how to implement the curriculum into his lesson plan.
