MIRACLE…
MUMMIES AND THEIR MYSTERIES
Egyptian
mummies are
famous all
over the
world. But
Egypt is not
the only place
mummies
have been
found.
WHAT IS A MUMMY?
A mummy is the body of a human or animal in which some of the
soft tissues (skin, muscles, or organs) did not decay after death. This
makes a mummy different from a skeleton or a fossil. A skeleton is
only bones, with no soft tissues at all. A fossil keeps the shape of the
human, animal, or plant, but the body itself has hardened into rock.
Mummies are made naturally or byemba l mi ng, which is any
process used to preserve a dead body.
MUMMIES & THEIR
MYSTERIES
While we are alive, our bodies fight off bacteria and
fungi, but after death these germs and molds eat the
body's tissues, causing decay.
M u m m i f i c a t i o n happens when bacteria and
fungi cannot grow in the dead body. Mummies can be
dried in the sun, with chemicals, or with fire or smoke.
