A Soldier’s Honor

Your sacrifice

Is not only tragedy

That has put your mind

Past comprehension

For it, is a gift, to our own angry lips

Which shout our disbelief of your honor

Even your dedication and honor

Cannot begin to explain the depth of your sacrifice

Though even that cannot mute our disbelieving lips

Your experiences, a tragedy

So far beyond our possible comprehension

That it is slips past our very minds

Even our minds

Cannot understand your honor

And cannot comprehend

Why the sacrifice

Why the tragedy

Why you bear the pain of your companions forever silent lips.
That which passes our lips

Is of little importance to your mind

For you have seen true tragedy and, bolstered by honor

Have turned that sacrifice

Into a new comprehension

That hard-bought comprehension

Goes unnoticed to those whose lips

Question the depth of your sacrifice

They yearn to understand your mind

But without your honor

Your duty! They cannot know the depth of this tragedy

For the true tragedy

Is in the uncomprehending

Faces and hearts of those not bolstered by a soldier’s honor

Thus from their lips

Is voiced only that which their minds

Will never understand, they can never know of your sacrifice
